I am 57 years old ,and I am over weight .My knees hurt everyday, I had total knee replacement on one knee and it still hurt.So I am undecided on having the other knee done ,my knee is bone on bone. My back hurt sometime because of heirnated disc and arthritis .When I could walk I were able to keep the weight down.

I had both my knees done in 2016 n I still have knee pain n now have problems with my feet. My knees feel dead like leather. If I sit for just a few minutes my knees get stiff n I can barely walk. If I had known this was how this would turned out I would not had that surgery. It was the worse pain I have ever had n still in pain.

Hi hmfs,

Sorry to hear that your having the symptoms you describe and what sounds like difficult with basic movement.

I am wondering if you have another condition that could be causing your problems. I would recommend seeing a physiatrist or a physical therapist to assess if you have issues with your low back or hips that are referring pain to your knees and feet?

Are you performing and routine exercises that seem to help?

Please follow up with your primary physician to assess your overall health.

One movement program you may want to consider is water exercise classes .

Best

Hi, I am sorry to hear about your situation. I would also recommend seeing a general orthopaedist. It is important to get to the bottom of the symptoms in your knees and in your feet.

That is my biggest fear about having knee replacement. I know several who say the pain is not any better, etc. This winter has been hard on my joints but Im hoping to get to our local pool this summer and try water walking.

I have a partial knee replacement and it has been wonderful. Most people enjoy a much better quality after knee replacement. There are a few who don't but please don't let that put you off. There is pain afterwards while all the soft tissues are healing but that reduces gradually.

Best I can tell you is to do low impact movement such as walking in water with the water level up to your chest. No swimming. A stationary recumbent bicycle would also work and have less affect on your back.

I would follow Shawn Tucker‘s advice. Hope things turn for the better for you. Give your total knee at least a year or two before you jump in to the second one.

Be well RJ

I heard a doctor talk about protein leverage the other day. He says that if you can eat more protein and less carbs that you can lose weight more easily. Try eating any protein and some leafy veggies every day and see how that goes. Cut the rice, pasta and potatoes down -don't go over board. Just see if you feel a little less hungry. Good luck

Just wanted to follow up to see how you were doing? Wondering if you have tried any of the ideas and if you are still having problems.

YOU CAN STILL DO LOW OR NON IMPACT ACTIVITIES SUCH AS RECUMBENT STATIONARY BIKE, SLOW ELLIPTICAL EXERCISE MACHINE, OR BEST YET WALK IN A POOL.

EXERCISE WILL NOT BURN OFF SIGNIFICANT CALORIES TO LOSE OR KEEP WEIGHT OFF--WALKING ONE HOUR BURNS LESS 200 CAL--A SLICE OF BREAD WITH SMALL AMOUNT OF BUTTER---PORTION CONTROL IS THE ANSWER RJ
