Yes I do have this same problem I took picture just to show my Dr. He just says that it comes from sever constipation. How ever I try and deal with it. Have not found anything to help it. I take meds for the constipation but it still happens. Wish I could give you better news as to something that would help. Just part of what we have.

Hi - I wondered too, whether you maybe have IBS? There are med's which can help with it if so. I get it and it can be so uncomfortable, your stomach feels so tight.

I'ts amazing how much constipation the meds can cause. My guess is that it could be constipation which can be high up in the intestine. You can still be constipated even if you are going to the loo every day. Could you try a mild laxative? Ask the Pharmacist to recommend one, take it as instructed and see what happens. Grapes, plums, dates, dried fruit without added sugar, bran etc are all good. If you are still no better after a couple of days or so then it's back to your doctor. Oh yes! most important, drink plenty of water and fluids in general.

Good luck.

Hey Biffo! Not sure how old you are, but if peri or menopausal time is there , that can certainly be a contributing factor. Whatever the cause, I do suggest that you keep a log for everything you eat and drink for 2weeks. This can help you see any culprits. Then, try to eliminate wheat/gluten for 2weeks. Many find significant relief from doing this. If you feel better, then you know you are sensitive and should keep diet accordingly. Best of luck :)

Poor you sounds really uncomfortable .....natural laxative like senna might ease things & get thnigs moving ..... drink plenty of warm water ( cooled boiled with a squueze of lemon juice) sometimes that can prommpt movement.

If it's not moving along then pop to see you Dr they can checkyour abdomen & advise accordingly .. not pleasant though bless you xxx

Oh Yes... :( I have found warm water with half a lemon squeezed in every morning before I have anything else helps alot...I don"t know why exactly it works or why the water has to be warm, but it really works for me...plus drinking lots of water thru the day, as many fruits as I can eat, yogurt....watch what you eat, some foods just will be hard for your digestive system.... Hope it gets better for you ~debi~ :)

Water retention related to possible kidney issues can cause 'bloating' like symptoms.

Is it just the stomach area or are legs/feet affected as well?

actually my thighs are swollen

Its really worth paying a visit to your GP just to rule out potential kidney problems. Are you getting eyestrain or headaches as well?

Hiya bifflo - I have diffuse scleroderma with raynauds. I spent over a decade feeling bloated. In December I re-vamped my diet, cutting out bread, potatoes, pasta, dairy products; within days I noticed a difference of not feeling as bloated and lethargic and sluggish ! check out my juicing epiphany blog post for some more info if it interests you! Would love to hear about anything which you have found works for you on the bloating challenge :)

I totally agree with overnighthearingloss. I would definitely have the doctor check the kidneys and also the lungs and liver. I believe they can also cause swelling.

To be honest, I didnt know what to ask so didnt really say anything. The sonographer suggested I book a gp appointment to discuss further.

I have already been in the care of a gastroenterologist but but GP decided to send me to the local hospital who do not have much in terms of history.

Have a really heavy cold at the moment, courtesy of my nephew so havent bothered doing any follow up just yet.

Chicken soup and some better weather at the weekend will hopefully make everything better :-)

I have just read your post and wondered if you had any more news yet?

I have had Reynauds for a long time, affects my toes a lot?..but like all auto immune sufferers I have other things going on too. The reason I have replied to your post is that I had bloods done a few years ago and scans to reveal Primary Biliary Cirrhosis (PBC) which is an auto immune disease of the liver, to be followed by Sjogrens Syndrome. It seems that us auto immune sufferers are all likely to have more than one disease. Just wanted to let you know you are not alone :)

This is a common problem in scleroderma. Speak to your doctor about it as there may be an answer as we are all so different in our symptoms and causes.
