Is inability to keep warm without excessive layers of clothing part of Raynaud's?

Despite up to six layers of kit, when out cycling this winter, I am unable to keep warm even when making extra effort,i.e up hills.

Probably, but there are ways of keeping warm. Hve you been diagnosed with Raynaud's?

I would say no if it is not the extremities. I have CREST Syndrome with digital ulcers on 6 out of 10 of my fingers and I am an avid mountain biker from New England. The only really cold part on my body is my fingers and sometimes my toes when biking in colder weather. I wear thermal bike clothing when it is cool to cold out just to be sure I stay warm (it is always easier to remove clothing on the trail instead of adding something you don't have). I have benefited greatly from 90 mg of nifedipine daily which I will be on for as long as I live.

Fraid I have to disagree with previous two replies. I rock climb and have massive issues with keeping warm compared to my non-raynauds climbing buddies. Like you, I can have 5 layers of clothing on (artic spec duvet jacket incl.) and still not be properly warm as soon as I stop moving. It takes me 3 - 5 times longer than most people on average, to generate the same amount of amount of body heat per effort expended. Eventually my core temp will rise, but if triggers are there, e.g. wind, humidity, cold, my hands, feet and nose can remain like ice. I have never found an effective medication despite 20 years of trying. Still, I refuse to give up the activities I love. Was out kite-boarding today, freezing cold, but will update my kit after father christmas has visited! At least at this time of year when other people start complaining they are uncomfortable, they will be getting an inkling of what it's like for us all the time. Never give up & never sit still. x
