Hi. Has anyone had advice about taking collegen supplements. I have MCT disorder so I don't know if I am making too much collegen or if its just inflammation but either way I have read some articles saying that collegen supplements can help with remodelling collegen which may be helpful. Any feedback would be useful. Thanks

I have taken marine collagen supplements in the past with no issues. Not sure it’s a hugely researched area. My rheumatologist has told me that collagen creams you apply superficially on the skin will not affect disease but not sure about a supplement you take systematically.

Not sure how taking collagen would help with its remodelling. As soon as you swallow proteins like collagen, they are broken down by acid in the stomach and then enzymes in the intestine until you can absorb them as amino acids, which are the building blocks of all proteins. We don't absorb collagen as a whole molecule and even if we did, this wouldn't affect its remodelling. The form a protein takes in our body depends on the info in our DNA. Taking it probably won't do any harm but I can't see much benefit of it.

Hmm! Seems obvious now but hadn't thought of it like that. I need to go back to source. Thank you for your comment.
