Good evening I am wondering if you can help me to relay this back to my husband so that I can speak to his G.P or he can, sorry if this sounds confusing, but he has been taking Cerecten 20mg for some months now, and I had a peep at the side effects and out of the many you can get with these is not at funny.
So being concerned I wrote down 8 of the side effects my husband is having and 1 which is not listed, these of course worried me and suggested he contacted his G.P. and to cut a long story short this locum G.P just told him to do a blood pressure reading for a week which we are.
Has anyone else had any side effects whilst taking these please as he goes through the same reactions each day, and why check his blood pressure, he did have an angina scare a few years back as our ASB neighbour assaulted him.
I really would like to know if anyone has suffered any side effects when taking these tablets.
I am sorry to be a pain but it would help me if anyone else had any side effects from these Cerecten 20mg please.

I’ve never come across Cerecten. Do you mean Coractan? That’s what I have. If you mean any sort of Nifedipine (which Coractan is) make sure it is ‘modified release’ ie it feeds slowly into the blood over 12 hours, rather than releasing all in one hit. A one-hit release would likely make a person giddy or worse, headaches, flushing etc.
As LadyTrundle says if you mean Coracten (which is generically called Nifedipine) it is a vasodilator (opens the blood vessels) and improves circulation. It is more commonly used though for hypertension ( high blood pressure). If your using it for Raynauds symptoms but your blood pressure is relatively normal it can cause flushing, dizziness, nausea and headaches. These usually subside though. I take Coracten and have been using a form of nifedipine for about 19 years especially in the winter months for Raynauds symptoms. As you don’t state the types of side effects you believe your husband is having it’s difficult to comment but your doctor will be asking you to check his blood pressure to make sure that dose isn’t making it fall into the hypotension bracket (low blood pressure).
Dear Midgebite21, please forgive me for the late reply, it has been an up and down for some days now as it is my husband who has these, and I apologise for getting and spelling the name wrong. He has been on 20mg of them and has 8 of the side effects mentioned in the leaflet that is with them, so I contacted our G.P via a internal message on their site explaining what side effects he was having and yes the locum G.P asked him to take his blood pressure for a week which I did for him. The readings are mild hypertension but these side effects are really awful as you both know what they are, and because of these he says that he is going "mental" as they are confusing him and this is just one of the side effects he is getting out of 8 of them.
I am of course no doctor but have been married for 41 years to him and seen what they are doing to him and he is like a different person to the one I know. I honestly think that his G.P should perhaps give him a lower dose say 10mg or change them to another kind of tablet for his blood pressure.
I really am concerned about these side effects he is having with these as he has been taking them for a long time now.

Dear Midgebite21, you have the same mind of thinking as me and was just going to contact them and will not take no for an answer. There is far too much of diagnosing over the phone these days and in my opinion how on earth can you do this without seeing the person in the flesh, this annoys me very very much as you hear about people being diagnosed wrong and have ended up in hospital or worse.
Honestly do not know what is going on with our health care today, must be that there are far too many patients for the surgeries to manage, all bar 3 receptionists at our surgery are off sick and they have put their shutters down, if you do manage to get through quite often the appointments have all been taken, you can not even book a phone call to speak to your own G.P you end up, if lucky having a call from a locum which only reads about your history on the computer and something tells me that is what has happened. Nobody has taken a blind bit of notice of the message I sent about these 8 different side effects and this in my book is a very serious way of going on.
I thank you for your replying to me and will demand to make a normal appointment for him, I will not see him suffer as he has been taking these for 2 years now and the effects have just started to show.
