Hi all. Has anyone been advised to stop taking Methotrexate near the time of having the Covid 19 vaccination or whether one might affect the other? Thank you

I would advise you talk to your medical team. The Vroom study showed that methotrexate can inhibit your response to the vaccine. I BELIEVE that the official recommendation from the British Rheumatology Society is now that you should stop the mtx for 2 weeks after the jab to give your body time to mount its response. That is certainly what I shall do as it fits with my own experience. After my second jab I decided to take an antibody test and had very low levels. So for my booster I stopped mtx for 2 weeks after and had a massively improved response. But, I repeat that you should talk to your med team to confirm that they are happy for you to do that

Thank you Ascidian

That is sound advice as well as interesting feedback and worthwhile informing my decision (especially at it is very hard to get in touch with my Rheumatology team!

Thank you

I participated in the VROOM study and I will stop MTX for two weeks after my booster. Link to the published research thelancet.com/journals/lanr...

Hi hun

I stopped methotrexate at time for shingles then infection then a bad fall.

Waited 2 weeks beforehand of getting covid booster then 2 weeks after before re starting methotrexate.

Rheumatology consultant agreed

My next booster due end November or December if i wish .

Thank you.

I've decided to stop it for 2 weeks too as I didn't hear back from my Rheumatology team.
