I have scleroderma and Reynolds. I have calcinosis in two of my fingers which has been excreting lumps of calcium for the last 9 months which means it never properly healed. Long story short, mri finally shown infected finger bone. On long term oral antibiotics and waiting to find out if that works or needs biopsy, not good because of blood supply in fingers, or intravenous antibiotics in hospital. Have now found sore red hard lump on my elbow, are they connected? Has anyone else had a similar experience with calcinosis?

Scleroderma, calcinosis, infected bone
Hi Mirv, yes I have similar problems with calcinosis and osteomyelitis in a couple of fingers due to Raynauds. Had part of one finger amputated due to severe infection. Before amputation had IV antibiotics for 4 weeks but infection still in finger bone. Poor circulation makes it difficult for antibiotic to penetrate to tip of finger where infection is. Also tried oral antibiotic but ineffective. I just focus on keeping hands warm with Nifedipine tablets, GTN patches on hands and hand warmers. Also trying high grade Manuka honey which is known for fighting infection. Calcinosis lasts for months and can very very painful leaving fingers highly sensitive. I totally empathise with your situation. Hope antibiotics work for you. Everyone is different and it also depends on nature of infection, some bugs are harder to treat than others. Good luck. 🙂
Hi thanks so much for replying. Scary stuff! The situation sounds similar. Hopefully oral antibiotics will work. X
