Any ideas?

I am a raynaud's sufferer and recently I have developed a raised irritation on my left hand. It sometimes cracks and bleeds and looks like little cuts. I thought that it was a reaction to hand sanitiser but it just isn't budging. Doesn't look as red in the photos as it is. Sometimes it really stings and hurts. My right hand is completely unaffected.

Hi being a nurse for over 40 years I use to see colleagues hands go like this from hand wash and or sanitiser. Just a thought.

Thank you so much for replying!

My first thought was wash and sanitiser.

I have no idea what to do about it as it is only one hand. I've tried so many moisturisers and various hand washes and nothing is budging!

Speak to your chemist and see if they can advise you on the best cream you can use as both a wash and soothing cream. It will help.

And only use that. It will take time but stick with it. If it itches and your not allergic to antihistamines take one a day for the itch. But always seek advice from you GP.

Use emollient lotion with gloves on to keep your hands moisturize. Do it for as long as you can. I like Eucerin or Cerave. My hands are perpetually like this in the winter because it’s cold and dry. Stay away from things that contain scents or alcohol. What you are experiencing is called mechanics hands when they get dry and crack like that.

Hi Lenrythe8th,I get patches of skin like this sometimes. I use over the counter Hydrocortisone cream (1%). It usually works for me, but you are not supposed to use it for more than a week, or on your face as it can result in thinning of the skin. Hope this helps 🙏🏼

Nursem. I’ve tried them all and this is the only one which always works. A nurse gets a months free supply when you buy it too. 😊
