Hi there, I’ve recently been prescribed Glyceryl Trinitrate (Deponit) patches & Hydroxychloroquine (tablets) for my limited cutaneous systemic sclerosis after various previous meds not working. Has anyone else used these? Any success?
Many thanks in advance for your replies 😊

Glyseral trinitrate (TNT, yes the explosive stuff otherwise known as GTN) is a powerful vasodilator and used to open/relax your vascular system to help prevent Raynauds and other Microvasclar Diseases. the only strange bit is why not a longer acting mononitrate?
Firstly Missymoo. I hope you have now gone past then seriously painful headaches I had when I started these patches. Give it a week and keep going using them some many hours until like me you keep them on for 24 hours. I have been on them for nearly a year. I can say it has been the most effective medicine I have used. They were used by Royal London Free Hospital and the consultants were asked to try it on their patients. I am so glad they did. It has helped my Raynauds so much. It seems to also keep me warmer and to be able to walk around in just a teeshirt and blouse all summer and not feel cold.
Then Hydroxychloroquine I also use this which I have to take. I hate it. It has totally wrecked my eyesight.
KEEP ON THE PATCHES MISSYMOO. you will feel a lot better.
Kingfisherblue, thanks so much for your response. Yes headaches 😳 they’re hideous. Hopefully they’ll pass?!
Last year it was picked up in an eye test that I had narrowing angles in both eyes which put me at high risk of angle closure glaucoma, so had preventative surgery to help. Reading the side effects to the GTN patches it states ‘angle closure glaucoma’ so now slightly worried.
Regards to the Hydroxychloriquine, yes the consultant mentioned the damage it could cause to the back of my eyes - awesome 😂🙈
I have only been on Hydroxychloroquine for about 4 months but have recently noticed an increase of floaters in my eyes. Has anyone else experienced this? I’m not sure if the two are related, but I was told I’m a bit too young to be getting them at 25, so will be paying a visit to an optician soon! It has otherwise been working well and definitely improved some of the fatigue I’ve had. I hope it continues to work well for you!
Hi there, I was told by my consultant that the Hydroxychloroquine can cause damage to the retina and cells in the back of the eye and so annual screening is very important when taking this drug. It usually occurs after long term use. Definitely get it checked and make sure you’re regularly screened 😊
He did mention this to me too but I didn't think 4 months was long term enough :/ I guess the safest thing is a check up asap, especially since I've also recently started on steroids! Thanks
