Hi, I joined the group today, I have CREST syndrome. Can any one recommend a topical cream or treatment for my hands. I have sores that doesn't heal - or heals very slowly, and itchy skin.

Hi and welcome. Like you I have Crest amungst other things.

Try Cetraban cream/lotion or Diprobase lotion oh and you could try Cetirizine which is a antihistamines and will help with the itching.

I have had Crest for over 18years now and have found over the years that the best cream that really works to help hydrate my hand is foot cream the none greasy kind, the other creams I’ve mentioned above are good for the rest of you.

I hope this helps

Best wishes

Joan

Doublebase gel is excellent for itching skin. You can get a prescription from the doctor.

I have started using O'Keeffee's Working Hands with good results; it is for extremely dry, cracked skin. Absolutely non-greasy and you need the tiniest amount to rub in. I don't think it's appropriate for open sores or ulcers. A good antibiotic cream may be better for sores and ulcers, then try O'Keeffee's. It's quite inexpensive. I really like to put a goodly amount of zinc oxide (diaper rash) cream on my hands then use non-latex surgery type gloves overnight. This too is very affordable and makes your hands feel like they've had spa treatment :). I think the effectiveness of any of the products depends a lot on the individual. avoid any scented products, check with your pharmacist, family doc, rheumatologist and the various sclero and google. But small amounts until you find one, or a combination, of what works for you. Using a cool mist humidifier helps too. Use surgical gloves, finger cots and avoid having your hands in water more often than necessary. Best of luck.
