Hi - my doctor told me not to sleep too much with fatigue as it can exasperate it - sport and fitness will build his energy but he needs to realise the excessive tiredness is something he needs to push through (sometimes) to maintain a normal sleep pattern (i.e. Sleeping all day will reduce the quality of sleep) it's very tough I do understand. Exercise multiplies mitochondria in cells (which generate energy in breaking down ATP to ADP) - d-ribose and creatine supplements are the molecules involved in the energy production and I find supplementing with them does help.

Thank you for your advice when do u recommend taking these tablets with breakfast? Are they more like a vitamin or for training?

Hi,

I have a scoop of ribose (it's a powder) in a morning and as it's just a short chain sugar you can take it when you need it - 30 mins before exercise is ideal and as and when you need it. Creatine is once a day 1 scoop (powder: not sure how many tablets) tastes gross and doesn't mix well but effect builds up over a week or two - every couple of months stop it a week and then restart again. I take my creatine in a morning but some people say after exercise (not sure timing is so critical as effect builds up).

I agree as I can't do much exercise cause of a compressed cord in my back. I do get up and do something everyday and find things I enjoy and only if it's a little bit of time it helps. But also learn your limits cause doing to much can set you way back. The d-ribose and mitochondria are super important. Get the d vits checked and use a good bcomplex. Good luck 🌻

I get mine from myprotein :)

What's your husband's diagnosis? What meds, if any, is he currently taking? Hard to try to answer your question without a little background info. 😊

Ok so he has systemic scleroderma since the age of 12 now 28 atm he is I would say at a very severe stage in his life (hands curled very low weight severe red dots unable to touch feet)

He is on no meds reason being he finds they don't do anything internally he feels worse so would rather be without them

Let me know if u need any other info

I struggle with the horrible fatigue from scleroderma, and it affects everything in your life. I can easily sleep 12-13 hours. However, I realised that sleeping doesn't change anything and I was wasting my life away, sleeping at weekends, as it didn't stop the fatigue and I was in a pattern of working long hours in the week and sleeping most of the weekend. I felt that my life had shrunk to work and sleep. The only way to change this was to push myself to do other things at weekends, make myself get up and do things, seeing friends, eating out, etc; in other words, getting the wonderful things back in my life. It was so easy to spiral into depression and self-pity, struggling with a horrible debilitating disease, but I realised that I had two choices; make myself push through and get a life, or give up, wallow in self-pity and wait to deteriorate. The point is that excessive sleep does not make the scleroderma fatigue any better, and however long you sleep you still feel fatigued. Too much sleep actually makes the symptoms worse. There's a large body of research that shows this.

I hope it helps.
