Thanks for all of you who replied to this post question. It is indeed chilblains. I have a rather awkward job, where I have to keep taking my gloves off to use a touchscreen smart phone. The best fingerless mittens I had before Lupus etc struck were made by barbour.

Do you have raynaud's too? Chilblains are secondary to raynaud's
It happens to me every year, there is this cortizol cream that helps them heal quicker, otherwise it takes a couple of weeks.
I don't have Raynaud's often. But I do have chilblains every year a few times
At the Raynauds and Scleroderma conference in Manchester earlier this year there was a stand with a prototype glove that you could use on a touchscreen. Might be worth following up, I'm sure someone at the now merged society can point you in the right direction for a contact.
