Why are my hands still cold when I am wearing gloves?

When I am wearing gloves my hands are still cold and sometimes go purple and when I take them off inside, they're numb, painful and go red, I think I might have Raynaud's but I'd need to go to my doctors and see if it's true. Do you think I have Raynaud's?

Yes I would suggest you quite likely do have Raynaud's and it is a very good idea to get it checked out because unless you do your best to keep warm you can have some nasty side effects. The trick is to keep your core body warm. Wear layers of good thermal quality undies. I wear layers of modern thermals such as Damart and then wool on top plus a good windproof outer layer. There are medications that can help but the most important thing is to keep warm.

Yes! Wearing thermals and keeping your core temperature up through exercising are excellent ways of protecting yourself. Also, I should ask, are your gloves and footwear (socks) thermal too? Head gear is important, especially keeping the ears warm so wear one of those headbands or a warm hat, a scarf around the neck to keep the heat loss to a minimum. You can always remove a layer if you're too warm!

My gloves are Thinsulate 40 grams, but even I think that they're not that good, I was thinking of getting heat holders for the insides of my gloves as I'll think they'll help.

I actually don't have thermal socks, but I have asked my mum to get me some for christmas.

I find that no matter how thick gloves and socks are, when my hands and feet are cold they are cold... Layers can protect from external cold, but don't warm up.

sounds like Raynauds, try silver gloves from R.S.A shop , i wear them at work also try wearing skiing tops as they are quite good aswell . All the best Gizmo75

Sounds like it. I sometimes have to wear gloves inside. Stress can trigger Raynauds too. Nothing but warmth helps Raynauds. That my doctor has revealed to me. My Raynauds usually goes like this my fingers and sometimes toes go numb turn white in color. Come back inside put fingers in warm water. They turn red sometimes purple feel like pins and needles. Then come back to life. And I try to keep them warm. The internet has places you can go that have heated gloves but they are spendy. Good Luck!

Hi, yes I think you do have Raynauds and you should see your GP and ask for blood tests to confirm that there is not a secondary cause such as scleroderma or lupus etc. Most people with Raynauds has primary but it is best to make sure as early diagnosis and treatment is essential. I hope you are well and keep warm.
