Brilliant question but I don't know any answers and I'd like the answer to l

Scleroderma can be diagnosed by a blood test. I've had Raynaud's for about 5 years - unlikely in years to come (but not impossible) that I will have scleroderma. So your doctor can arrange a simple blood test for you.

A very high proportion of people with Raynaud's never get scleroderma. I have this information from the Raynaud and Scleroderma Association publication "Hot News". Contact them on their website.

No, only a tiny minority get scleroderma. Primary raynauds is what most people have, whereas i and a few others have secondary raynauds which is much more serious. The blood test is not actually a definate diagnosis no-one, it is just a diagnostic measure, you have to have many other symptoms before you are given a scleroderma diagnosis. I actually got gangrene in my finger, but it still took years to get given the scleroderma diagnosis as they wouldnt do it unless absolutely definate.

As I understand it there are two types of Raynauds. Primary, where there are no other complications, and secondary, where the raynauds symptoms come in response to other complications, such as scleroderma. In other words, the scleroderma begins to develop before the raynauds attacks begin to be evident, as the circulation becomes compromised by the thickening of the skin and body tissues. So if you have primary raynauds, it is not in response to any other complication, so hopefully your gp/consultant can put your mind at rest.

It is highly unlikely you will develop scleroderma, but you can ask for a blood test to put your mind at ease.
