Hi Guys

Anyone here on cpap for sleep apnoea have any experience with overnight mould growing in the machine's humidifier?

I'm using boiled water (cooled) fresh water everyday and the mould, grey in appearance appears overnight.

Just moved from North Yorkshire to West Wales.

best regards

I use a touch of vinegar I the water when I clean the water tank, also use a wee brush that gets in to rub the PINK deposit on the inside. This colour is undoubtedly, from whatever is put in our water supply to keep it clean for our consumption. Your grey deposit may be something similar, you could enquire from your Water supplier, even if it proves to be this, I think I would keep using the vinegar, hope this helps.

Hi!

I used distilled water instead of tap water for my CPAP.

Thankyou

I went straight to thinking there was something in the air, didn't even think about the water. I'm going to try the vinegar, it seems to be used a lot in cleaning and I don't mind the smell.

Thanks again and best wishes

Simon

Hi CCWW - I decided to get a So Clean machine for mine, and it has done really well.. Good luck whichever way you go..

I looked at the So Clean option but read a lot of reports that it can damage the seals on the CPAP - many people had complained so I decided against it. Just so you are aware.

Yep - I read a lot of others that love it. I've been using for about 6 weeks - they are fine so far, and I don't have to worry about building up mold in the humidifier or tubes.

Late reply - I drop my tank onto a bowl of hot (not boiling) water with a few (4 - 5) Sterident tablets as they are designed to clean plastic dentures before they are put in your mouth so they have to be safe and do a decent job.

I had an appointment at the sleep clinic a few days ago, machine and safety check.

They made a small adjustment to "air-pressure" as the machine was set for a thinner tube than the one I was using and wow! What a difference, the machine seems to have taken on a more gentle approach.

I digress, they advised mild detergent (washing up liquid) and a dedicated small paint brush (new). I'm still going to rinse in vinegar.

Best Regards
