Please advise. Every night I struggle to sleep if I don't take a pill. Sometimes I am unable to fall a sleep whole night or wake up after 4-6 hrs. Then I am awake whole day. Despite maintaining sleep hygiene I crave for natural sleep. It has been several years like this but I have not given up hope.

Hilosinggame. I once had a friend on medication unable to sleep. But it's most important to know more, is it because you are not physically tired? You don't mention medication for sleep or other. I'd know what more to say with that info
The name of the drug given is not revealed to me to prevent misuse. But, I am able to sleep after taking it. What I wish is I could sleep without any medication. After a long sedentary day of 16 hrs awake without nap I don't have much strength.
I and we are no experts on this forum, and without optimum info it's hard to understand.
It is my belief that we all have different sleep patterns. Some, like me, like 8 hours and feel short changed with six hours (I get up sometimes at 5.00AM, and i dont feel right for the rest of the day. Margaret Thatcher was said to only need two hours sleep.
That said, two things have changed in my life recently. I have retired, and I have discovered that what was happening for a while (5 years) is PLMD. So i do know about disturbed sleep.
I take a walk in the evening to tire myself, and when going to bed i take two paracetamol that seems to prep me for sleep, slows the heart rate ETC. Before i turn the light out i have a small read of a book.
five hours sleep deep and proper, then i stir. I find lying there quietly i do drift off back to sleep.
My friend who I talk about was adicted to sleeping pills stopped at my suggestion, picked up a book at bedtime, and hasn't taken them any more. Do remember your mother/father used (hopefully) to read stories to you at bed-time. It is relaxing.
-Hi, this is Marcio, 69. _ I have UARS and RLS. Along all these years, I used to think a had " insominia" since 17, which by some 5 years ago I found out was not really "insomnia", rather UARS and RLS. _ then, the foremost question: do you have a good accurate DIAGNOSIS of your insomnia? such as PSG (and, more even more accurated, data set derived from a rented CPAP to beginning with ? )
_ rigorous sleep hyginene: it looks you have, as you have said;
Well, 5 years ago it was my rebirthing, by both discovering and treating UARS and RLS. The first one , after 2 PSG's and take care by myself of my dataset derived of my Bilevel CPAP since then. The second, RLS, some 2.5 years ago, I found out how to manage it with 0.4 mg of Clonazepam (no side effects) and by using Energy and Psycology energy, such EFT, Pranic Healing, and Dona Eden's energy routine.
Rigorous sleep hygiene is crucial, including sleeping in two stages, like pre buble light times:midnight to some 3;30 4:00...... some 90 minutes interval for energy techiniques and meditation....and some more sleep up to some 8;30 in the morning. Doing well...
I have just tried some natural dehumidifiers in my room in little saltwater traps and it has made a huge difference to me. Also I've put another post on here but no one has replied I'm trying a thing called a Sensate 2 and so far I found it really beneficial and it has some pretty good research behind it.
