I think I have suffered from insomnia for the whole of my life, I am 80. I lie awake - eyes wide open (will NOT stay closed) brain racing until the early hours, every little noise makes me jump and I wake up when my husband rises whoever quiet he tries to be, feeling tired and worn out.
I have tried reading, not reading, tablets (followed by hangover), relaxation, alcohol and no alcohol, TV and no TV, music, meditation, getting up and doing something useful - you name it and I've tried it.
My doctor keeps saying it will pass(?) and some people can manage fine on 4 - 5 hours a night, but I have to say I always feel half alive and it makes you suicidal!
