Painful jaw
Before I was diagnosed with Sjögren’s, years ago , I had severe pain my jaw , my dentist initially thought I was clenching my teeth at night. I tried a guard but it made no difference.
I was eventually diagnosed with Sjögren’s and the pain was actually being caused by fluid buildup in parotid gland. If I feel the pain coming on I massage my face and this helps, if I don’t do this i can end up looking like a hamster and can also lead to infection.
Your dentist might be able to give advice.
yes, it comes and goes. cant give you answer as to what the cause is as it hasn't bothered me enough to go to doctor. it also sometimes causes ear ache and on occasion cant open my jaw. not sure if the jaw bone ‘slips’ my pain is at the bit where it hinges.

Yes yes yes! Me too. Like Weathervane, my dentist recommended a guard and unlike Weathervane, it has helped me. I know this as I forget to take the guard with me on a 5 day work trip and my neck, particularly, the right side was tight. Try it. As we all have become aware, thanks to the all the lovely people on this site, no one seems to have the same outcomes. Good luck and let us know how you are managing it.
