I was diagnosed last year with SS. My dry mouth is causing the most problems. I had trouble with oral candida, it took ages to put a name to the red tissues and gums, and very difficult to get rid of as my Dr is not happy to keep me on antifungals. So am off to a Oral Pathologist soon. Finding soft food to eat is an ongoing problem as I keep away from yeast and as little sugar as possible, so have lost too much weight. Not good for me.
Sorry to whinge but there is not a lot of help as most Drs may have heard about it but know nothing and its very frustrating.

Thanks for your suggestions. Shall try the sage tea, it was recommended to me for the candida but he wondered if it would be drying. So shall try it and see.
Some ideas for mouth-washes are sea salt, apple cider vinegar, or baking soda solution. You might have to make the mouth-washes pretty frequent at first, and in-between times, make sure you always have something in your mouth to stimulate saliva, like xylitol gum, or lozenge, or perhaps stevia. Must keep drinking plenty of water, keep away from acid foods and spices. You may be lacking in vitamin b as I was. I went onto multi vitamins and minerals and take them all the time.has helped a lot. Our bodies are lacking in them due to the auto immune problem. try sucking the small lollies called Momentos you can get them at the supermarkets. They really help to produce saliva and have a nice fruity flavour.Dr's are not much help don't have much knowledge on SS.
Thanks for that advice. Shall get into the multi vitamins. At the moment am chewing xylitol sugarfree gum. Have only discovered it and it not only helps with the saliva but it has been proven to reduce dental caries. Anything that helps is a blessing.
The above reply re sucking on the sweets(or lollies) it should have been mentos not momentos. They are available in NewZealand don't know about other countries.
Macdog..
Hi, I have just joined so am a newbie, I live in the UK and was glad to see a site on Sjogrens. My doctor has given me eye drops and saliva tablets to suck to increase saliva, but the only thing that helps are sugar free sore throat tablets as they last for ages and really do stop my mouth being dry and they are also antiseptic which numbs the ulcers. I have now put on (since losing three stone because of mouth ulcers) two stone in weight due to only eating cream cakes, creamy pastas, ice cream and trifles as anything else makes my mouth burn, I cannot eat fruit or salad as they also make my mouth burn, I was diagnosed this year but the symptoms started in 2011 and it has taken the hospital until now to diagnose me.
Hi sweething12
I'm a newbie and from the UK as well. I hate the dry mouth and have an assortment of sprays and gels from my Dr and have been given some pilocarpine...haven't tried them as yet......have you thought about asking your Dr for some to try?
