I often find my tongue and throat seem dryer than the rest of my mouth, with burning sensations on the back of the tongue, is this common?

I was diagnosed with Sjogrens November 2011. Although I have suffered dry mouth and dry eye problems for years I realise these are still early days for me and the worst is probably to come.

try putting 8 drops of glycerine in your water each time you have a glass, and use Biotene mouth moisturising gel, smear it on your teeth and it will dissolve slowly.

Hello Beverly,

Lovely to hear from you and thanks for the advice. I do already use the mouth gel but haven't tried the glycerine. When you say 8 drops to a glass - what size glass? I am assuming you would mean roughly 250mls.

How often is it safe to do this per day? Do you buy the glycerine from the chemist or supermarket?

I apologise if I sound rather dumb but I really have no clue.

cheers, Happycamper.

Hi, yes 250mls is good, i do it every time i have a glass of water it seems to keep it all lubricated and yes you buy the glycerine at the chemist

Hi. Is this worse for you in the morning? If so, it could be that you are having reflux overnight. I had a terribly sore throat every morning until diagnosed with (silent) reflux. The throat was worse in the morning, but still sore throughout the day. Now that I am on reflux medication me throat is back to 'normal'.
