Angular Cheilitis

Does anyone have this please? My sister has Sjogrene’s and has developed sores in the corner of her mouth along with spots. She wonders if it’s connected.

Angular Cheilitis is definitely associated with Sjögren’s Syndrome. Not everyone gets it but it can be one of the symptoms.

I’m not sure about the spots though. Have you done a google image search of AC to see if any of those pictures look similar to your sisters?

Personally, I don’t get the mouth Angular Cheilitis but I do get cracks from the corners of my eyes. These cracks/fissures occur when I do not use my eye drops enough throughout the day….so essentially when my eyes are dry. This could be the same mechanism as the mouth, as dry mouth in SS is an issue too.

These painful cracks from the corners of my eyes were one of my first symptoms of SS however I have never seen any medical literature or comment specifically about eye cracks being related to Sjögren’s.

Thank you for your comments, no I haven’t looked but will do. She said it looks as though she has teenage acne!

She’s been given a steroid cream but doesn’t seem to have improved much.

Thanks again.

Look at toothpaste as it can be the main cause of any skin issues around the mouth. Dermotologist and dentist specialist both told me to avoid. Still have odd flare up but nothing like before. Sodium laureth sulfate is the ingredient to avoid.

Blepharitis. I had this unsightly black scale from corner of my eye like a poodle...doctor said it was just a part of me. I scratched it off slowly using aquagel to kill any bacteria. I googled formore info and found out there are these little parasite on your eye lashes/ eyebrows and keep hair out of your eyes...especially at night time. Eyes always want to get ulcerated as you get older with SS and it is also a part of continumal flares since Covid Immunisations. I often use auqagel all over my face which keeps bacterial infections at bay around mouth and eyes. Lemon and raw honey drinks are very beneficial along with eye health lutein tablets. Note do google foods with bilberry or lutein...this also helps naturally.

Hi,

Sores in corner of your mouth is related to Dry Mouth...I use the hand gel...stings a little but heals. I also get Burning Mouth syndrome...very painful....lips have shrunk and bottom lip gets quite flaky...treat with that gel...but also have added Collagen over 2 years ago...it helps with this and pain in joints.

Hi,

The sores on corner of mouth come with Sjogrens usually with stress or illness (Dry Mouth)...the mouth feels tight at the corners and sores can appear. I just use hand gel these days and it clears it up...best to do before the sores appear.
