Extreme body itching

Does anyone with Sjogrens suffer from body itching? I’ve had body itching for almost a week now! No rash just extreme itch! Eyes face and scalp are real bad! My nose and ears too! Everywhere Benedryl didn’t work and was given hi dosage of Prednisone! Although prednisone usually fast acting, there is no stopping this itch! Had bloodwork, liver enzymes and all! Just was wondering if Sjogrens can cause itching! Thanks and I wish all of you a Very Merry Christmas!!!

Associated "dryness" of Sjogrens. Dry skin, dry eyes, dry everything!

My skin gets itchy and sometimes red patches.

If I don't moisturize after showering each morning my skin really dries out which in turn can cause itchiness.

Do you have a daily eye care routine? I use eye drops every couple of hours and eye ointment for overnight. Yes my eyes itch sometimes too but my routine care is diligent. If your eyes are dry they will itch.

Poor you...it's uncomfortable isn't it? 👀 🙄

Happy New Year to you too! I do hope some overnight eye ointment may help! Here in Australia I have Poly Visc lubricating eye ointment which is a paraffin 3.5g.

Let me know what your Dr thinks! 👀

Systoms of Sgogrens. Everything dries out.

Could be that your liver needs checking out ASAP as rash-less itching can be a sign of a liver function problem. If nothing found it could be small fibre neuropathy perhaps. Prednisolone probably wouldn’t help either type of itch much.

I had blood tests and they came back ok! Prednisone didn’t help nothing helps! If I had a rash I’d feel better! Lol... thx so much

My skin is very itchy and everything dry which has gone to extreme recently, I’ve put mine down to central heating going on! Went to pantomime yesterday where they had air conditioning blowing, my eyes felt like they were Full of grit, the eye drops were just soaking straight in! The joys of sjogrens 😉

Hi Deb.I heard someone mention eye wash. I use TheraTears eye wash which helps me a lot. The itching is reduced to what it was several years ago. Warm washcloth compresses with gentle wiping also help when I've been in air conditioning, outdoor wind and pollen and other conditions that bug my eyes. My dry eye specialist also recommends taking fish oil or other Omega 3 sources.

Also mentioned in a response was winter heating drying out the air in our homes. I actually exceed the recommended humidity in our home by about 10%. We have a newer furnace with built in humidifier. But we also use a large humidifier in our living area and a diffuser in the bedroom at night. (I add a sinus blend of essential oils in the diffuser!) I swear this has kept me sane, lowered sinus congestion and eliminated sinus infections.

I also gently wash just inside my ears and then add a thin layer of petroleum jelly to reduce ear itching

I have always had dry, itchy skin. I've started trying to think of my skin as the biome it is. I don't use harsh soap, actually no soap except for those areas that distinctly need it. I don't shower every day. And I practice light exfoliation where needed rather than scrubbing my skin (except for heels and foot edges.) Stripping your skin and scalp of its own natural oils is counterproductive. I use light lotion or oil in the winter. But I believe that supporting our skin in functioning the way it was meant to is more important than moisturizing. With the right conditions, our skin will produce its own oil. Moist air, sweating, clean diet, drinking water (lower alcohol and sugar intake) are crucial for healthy skin.

I am also convinced that my eczema and itching is a direct result of what I eat. After eliminating gluten and severely limiting high acid foods, walnuts and coconut I now have very little eczema reactions. They are now mild and short-lived and the result of my cheating with a taco or curry. And my skin is more clear. I believe that the eczema is directly related to Sjogrens and some other auto-immune conditions. You may react negatively to other foods than I do.

What else can we really do about Sjogrens Syndrome than support our bodies in functioning more normally with reduced inflammation? Happy Holidays and good luck in reducing your itching.

Hi! I'm new to all this, and feel like I am an amateur amongst professionals. Have had a bucket load of symptoms - some on and off, some shifting places overnight - but always there somewhere. Have been told I have an over-active imagination for years by the medical profession - maybe, but not!! Now recently diagnosed with SS. Okay.

What I have done in the past for itchy everything is to increase the oil in my body as well as the moisture. Drinking heaps, moisturising heaps - also with an extra strength body lotion or cream (which attracts moisture to the spot supposedly - helps anyway) available at a good Chemist. I use eye drops (Systane) prescribed by my GP but suggested by my Optometrist - regular use is a must - like every hour or so, or as needed, but keep up the dose to keep any inflammation at bay. To increase the oil, I use flax seed, hemp seed, Krill oil or fish oil, CoQ10, and vitamin E as well as vitamin D - lots of. Also Curcumin - with every meal. I also increase the amount of general seeds into my diet while eliminating gluten, dairy and soy. Also eliminate all inflammatory food sources - e.g.Deadly Nightshade vegies -white potatoes, tomatoes, etc. - check on Google. Does restrict your food choices, but have found desperate measures are needed - doesn't eliminate all the pain and problems, but does help. Does help me for most of the time. Use of a humidifier was a God-send, avoiding air conditioning, avoiding hot showers - warm to cool only - acceptable in this Qld hot weather. I don't think anything will alleviate completely Sjogren's symptoms - trying not to stress about it, and keep calm and cool and hydrate constantly mentally, emotionally and physically.

Hope this all helps, but I feel as if I am preaching to the converted. All the best anyway, thinking of you. LOL

Thank you so much all sounds good! Have no relief at all I’m going to try what u say You’re not preaching and thank you!

Hi again Debbweb, if you go on UTube you can get some really good pointers on what to do and not do with dry eye. Some works - like simply putting a warm wash cloth across your eyes for several minutes. Helped me.

All the best,

PP
