Have had Sjogren's for nearly 10 years (am 65y.o.) I recently had a hip replacement, for which I lost some weight, and improved my fitness.

From 61kg, now down to 51.5kg, I am looking a little scrawny at 164cm height. I find I am continuing gradually to lose further weight. Is Sjogren's a connection here? Could it be candida in my gut? I've plenty of energy; follow an alkaline eating regime, though not strictly. Would supplements help (if I COULD afford them!) Any ideas? Thanks!

Just a thought, have your Thyroid checked as it is common with autoimmune disorders to have problems with that and it can cause weight loss or weight gain! Mary F x

Thanks Mary. I did have blood work done in July - all was OK then. I guess another check wouldn't hurt.

I had 2 knee replacements at the same time and I lost 50 pounds during the next year - I think I became more active because I could move easier and without pain. My grandson was born the same year and I watched him, after his mom had to go back to work, for 8-10 hours a day . I saw a reply below that said have your thyroid checked - good idea - to make sure things are ok - Rheumy's are usually testing the thyroid for me so it is a standard test they do every 6 months with or without new problems. Take care - Diane :-)

Thanks Diane - I never thought about the extra exercise! I too have 2 active granddaughters to contend with, and I am certainly moving faster & more freely. Maybe I need to build muscle. Cheers, Sally.

My daughter's name is Sally - small world - hardly hear the name Sally - usually Sarah or Sara - Sally is a derivative of Sarah - means " Princess " if my memory serves me well. Where are you located in AU? I have an Internet friend in Brisbane, Queensland who came from Adelaide then to New Zealand - have been emailing since 2000 - met in a lupus chat site from the UK back then - good to met you - Take Care - Diane ;-)

Diane - sorry not to have noticed this email from you. I was re-reading the stream, and saw your last message. I live in SE Qld, an hour from Bris. Blood test results have just shown only inflammation somewhere in my body (no surprise there), but absolutely nothing unusual with thyroid, thank goodness. But Bev's comments have me going in another direction now. Wish me luck. And plenty for you too. Have a great Christmas. Sally

My Aussie friend lives North of Brisbane, Qld. - as we head into the cold Winter season you are warming up there. we have been in below freezing temps most of the past week. A bit colder earlier than usual. Only snow showers on the east coast of PA so far - keep searching for what helps you feel better - we all respond so differently - Take care - Diane ;-)

I have suffered from Sjogrens for 8 years but also Hashimoto's thyroiditis for 20 years and the two go together in 25% of people. It might be worth asking Doctor, only problem is that the treatment for thyroid is to treat the blood test not the patient. Hopefully if you have a problem you will be in the zone and get treatment. If not, and your weight keeps giving you concern keep being tested. It took me five years of trips to doctor before I hit the range, so they keep me at the range, so not perfect.

Thanks for the advice. More to be armed with when I next visit the doc. Finding another doctor might be a good idea, too. Mine tends to be a little dismissive at time.

yes you can lose weight with sjogrens because sjogrens effects your digestive system and the ability to take the nutrients from the food you eat is compromised, you need a probiotic powder, I have a good one on my website sjogrens.org.au 2012 it's called, also you need 8 Tumeric Curcumin 300mg capsules aday these are by Tompson these can be bought from iherb.com.au and if you u8se this code LTV599 you will get them for wholesale price, these 2 things helped me.

Beverly, thanks so much. I have started to really worry now - but that's a good thing. I have ordered Thompson Turmeric from USA (your code wasn't accepted), and I have some mega probiotic tabs which I will use first up. I guess I need to see a naturopath now. I have checked out the Quantum/Rejuve website, and I live not far from Kingscliff (sort of), so I will gird my loins and venture into this restorative stage of my life! Would love to talk to you further about all this. Cheers, and good health to you, Sally

If you live near Kingscliff I am only at Mullumbimby near Byron Bay we could meet for coffee one day

Beverly.... I would love to meet up with you one day. I live at Canungra, 30 mins west of Nerang, Gold Coast. Mullum isn't too far a drive. When I get a break from work, I'll be in touch. Cheers, and a Merry Christmas,

Sally

Hi Salsal

Unfortunately the Dry Eye IPL treatment will not help Sjrogrens Syndrome (I certainly wish it did). This treatment is for the treatment of Evaporative Dry Eye attributable to Meibomian Gland Dysfunction.

Thanks Leezaw. I've done some researching now and spoken to my local optometrist who put me straight as well. Ahh forlorn hopes dashed again. Keep well.
