I am having trouble with a low white blood cell count- missing 3 treatments. My doctor is reluctant to give me shots of neupogen because of the side effects- extreme muscle ache.
I would like to ask those who have taken these shots what side effects, and how severe have they been? Thank you.

Neupogen is similar to Neulasta. I was on Neulasta to prevent low white blood cell counts while i was on Carbo and Doxil. To prevent bone pain I took Claritin the day of the shot, and I think once a day for about 5 days following the shot. I had no pain at all, and I'm wondering if this also will help with Neupogen.
I have both shots of neupogen and neulasta since November with no side effects, of course I hAve had side effects from chemo; neuropathy and loss of hair, neither caused by Neupogen or Neulasta
I have taken those neurogenic shots and I only got a few aches and pains nothing really bad. However everybody is different but it was nothing that I could not handle Jyst try one and see how you react to it God bless
Hi. I've had the name problem with white blood count and neutrophils. I am now on filogrestin injections for 5 days, 48 hrs after chemo. Not sure if these are the same thing. I was warned about side effects of aching bones and after 2 cycles of using them, I have not had any side effects.
I had a horrible reaction. Felt like my chest was going to explode. I really thought I was having a heart attack. I was in the hospital at MD Anderson at the time. I also had severe muscle spasms all across my lower back. I could not sit, stand, or lie comfortably for hours. The spasms were so hard the nurse could feel them without even touching me. She had to order a strong muscle relaxer from the pharmacy in the middle of the night. And also had the sternum pain as well. Not a fun experience at all.
I too take Claritin the day of and for a few days after. I do experience the aches, but it doesn't last long and knowing to expect it, makes it okay with me. I prefer the treatment.
