After liver ablation, a month later city scan showed 4 new lision in different parts of the liver. The doctor said that this once again confirms that ablation is not recommended for mets-cancer. He also rejected radiation and gave me Xeloda. I live in Toronto. Maybe the approach to treatment in America is different?

Questions after ablation
Sorry to hear that your cancer has popped up elsewhere in your liver. In the UK ablation is offered for (I think) up to 3 small mets. My own experience, having been through it twice, is it needs systemic treatment alongside it. I hope the Xeloda works for you.
hello,
I’ve had four liver Mets in about 6 years, all successfully eradicated with gamma knife radiation. Only side effect was mild fatigue for a couple of weeks….nothing to keep you from going about your life. It’s an amazing process! No added chemo.
Perhaps we use it more here in the USA?
Hope that helps!
I, too, am a Canadian. At 78 years old, I've had metastatic breast cancer for 5 years. I have multiple sites, including my liver. Since the liver is a large organ, and my liver continued to function well (according to related blood test measures), I did not have ablation, or radiation.
According to the research I've read, the best treatment for elderly patients with breast cancer may be ribociclib and letrozole (both are pills). For me, that combination keeps my cancer markers in the normal range. I still have cancer in multiple sites but it has quit growing.
I may well have missed a few articles, but I have never read that ablation is not recommended for cancer mets. I think you need to consult another oncologist. Yours may not be competent...
Before the ablation I was treated with palbociclip and fulvestran, but it did not help. My doctor is a professor and has written over 150 articles. But apparently that is how they treat in Canada. I read reviews from America and see that there are more treatment options there. We apparently do not have that many. Where in Canada do you live?
I live in Saskatoon, SK. I have a doctorate in clinical psychology so keep up -to-date on breast cancer research. I think you may be happier if you consult another oncologist about your situation. Yours may not be focused on patient care.
Here is an article that you might share with another oncologist: cancer.gov/news-events/canc...
Thank you for the article. I took palbociclip and fuvestrant for 9 months and I had progression of mets in the liver. I think that before the doctor acted according to the protocol. Then there was ablation of one lesion in the liver, after which city scan showed mets in different parts of the liver. Then Xeloda. What could have been wrong?

I think it must be because a friend in here in Australia had ablation for liver mets just recently. Unfortunately the cancer was aggressive and it didn’t help. Doctors withdrew treatment entirely.

I have had Liver Ablation and I got liver mets again . I have been o Xeloda and made me so sick. Right now I am on Orsertu for the last 3 months and I will be getting a CT scan on the 8th of August.
I have a similar situation. I had liver ablation. A month later, CT showed 4 new lesions. Now I am on the 4th course of Xeloda. Soon there will be CT and I am really looking forward to it. Sometimes I think that maybe there are other treatment options before chemotherapy, reading your posts. But in Canada, apparently, there is a protocol that follows what and there is no choice. Very sad.
