Ca 27.29 test

My Ca 27.29 went from 45 to 67 and that makes me nervous. I have been stable for 36 months and now I’m worried about progression. I’m on Ibrance and Letrozole and have done very well on the treatment. Has anyone had issues with their Ca 27.29 giving a false result?

Three years is a pretty good run on the Ibrance/Letrozole combo. That was my first treatment protocol when I was diagnosed with MBC in November 2017. I had progression after three years. There are so many treatments available after that so don’t feel panicked if you are experiencing progression.

God bless you!! 🙏🏻💗 Linda

Thank you.

I would also like to add that inflamation can mess with your numbers. A slight increase in CA readings could just be a product of a virus, inoculation or stress or strenuous excersise. Wishing you peace of mind.

Thank you. My gut tells me there is nothing to worry about, but my mind is trying to say otherwise. 😩 I have been exercising more than normal. I started a training program at the YMCA working with weights and cardio.

I let my CA 27/29 creep all the way up to 311 before I started Ibrance and tamoxifen. My markers now have dropped down to 99 every month they keep going down. I worried about my markers creeping up so had several scans, but no cancer ever showed up.. I know it is nerve-racking when your numbers creep up.

I was told by my doctor that fluctuations can occur for a variety of reasons, not just progression. She also said they can occur in the testing process and that if this test was performed several days in a row the numbers could be different. The doctors look for continuing upward trends not necessarily one jump in the number. Try not to worry for now until you speak with your doctor and find out what might have caused this spike. Sending you hugs and prayers.

I have also heard that.

I would also look at if you changed anything with your supplements. Last fall I started taking biotin to help with hair thinning. The month I began it my CA 27:29 jumped up. It continued to rise for 3 months. Strangely (and fortunately), I had a scan in that period of time which showed no progression and even some things shrinking. Seemed contradictory. After some deep digging I came across a report that said biotin can alter tumor marker bloodwork. So I stopped taking it the week before my blood draw. And next month markers came back down. I know it’s hard to be sure. But I found that all very interesting. My best to you.💕

Now I am very nervous! I csme from NZ where they looked at different markers so when I moved to usa more than a year ago and switched to Ca 27-29- I had no frame of reference for what the values meant… but they kept climbing and finally leveled off in the 400’s…. Still I kept getting stable disease on my scans( prob cuz lobular so hard to see) then finally a scan showed spread to liver snd I have switched to cape. After - few months my ca 27-29 marker went down to 256…. Dr seems pleased it is headed in right direction. He isn’t panicked that it is still high relative to normal…. So I wouldn’t worry about a few points still fluctuating around normal. You don’t want to get antsy and leave a perfectly good therapy too early. Just ride the wave of each therapy as long as it will take you.

I wouldn't worry about it too much unless it continues to go up. I had the same issue until it jumped up to 300. I have had all kinds of scans done and they cannot find any cancer. My oncologist decided to put me on tamoxifen and Ibrance, and now my markers are coming down.

my dr does not do this test every month and I just checked was 72 in January and he has not done one since and now I don’t see him until May. And I’m really worried now?

Please don’t worry about yours. I have a CT and Bone Scan scheduled for Tuesday, so I’ll give you an update

I agree with the others about not worrying. However at some point you most likely will have to change treatment. I’ve come to grips with that fact and don’t stress as much about the fluctuations in numbers. I was diagnosed in 2018 and on my fourth treatment (xeloda) and have had good results with that for 2 years.

Keep the faith, and try to focus on the good. I know it’s hard to do that sometimes but it helps. 😊☘️
