WEDNESDAY, Jan. 4, 2023 (HealthDay News) -- Patients with cancer have an increased risk for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) breakthrough infection and worse outcomes, with the highest risk seen for patients with hematologic cancer, according to a study published online Dec. 29 in JAMA Oncology.

Inna Y. Gong, M.D., Ph.D., from the University of Toronto and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, and colleagues found that severe outcomes of COVID-19 (composite of hospitalization and death) were significantly higher in patients with versus without cancer. They wrote, "Our findings support the prioritization of high-risk populations for booster vaccination, forthcoming variant-specific vaccine products, preexposure prophylaxis (where available), and rapid antiviral treatment in the face of SARS-CoV-2 infection as COVID-19 continues to be relevant with ongoing surges leading to excess morbidity and mortality."

Thanks for sharing this. I have just completed my last day off isolation after having caught covid from my husband (think he picked it up on our journey back from a holiday trip!). He had like a bad cold but did 2 negative rapid tests before finally it showed positive on a 3rd test, but by then it was too late for me. I felt fine the first day of symptoms but started to decline faster the second day, and as the day went on, so I started antivirals that evening and was glad I did. I felt much better the next day and progressively better with each day. Who knows how it would've gone if I hadn't taken them.

Thankyou Sister/Warrior,Advocate I have had three Covid vaccines with severe reactions. I take a natural antiviral, 5 years prior to Covid19. If I take another Vaccine it will be Novavax, whichmycousin took because he also had severe reactions to the past Covid vaccines.
