Hi! Has anyone been on xeloda ? I just saw my onco today and unfortunately recent PETScan just confirmed my present treatment kisqali and fulvestrant isn’t working anymore. I was on kisqali and letrozole for over 4 yrs and changed letrozole to fulvestrant 3 months ago but unfortunately after 3 months I have further progression. I have Mets in the liver, spine, abdomen and groin. Will shift to xeloda. I’m just about to start an aquatic exercise program but just wondering if that will be ok especially that it will be in a chlorinated indoor pool. Has anyone been on xeloda and able to swim in indoor pools?

Xeloda and Swimming
good question- I’ve just started and one cycle in. Im about to go on holiday where there will be a pool… I’ll ask at hospital tomorrow 👍
Thanks. Hopefully it won’t be a problem. As I’m still to take the first dose of xeloda I shouldn’t have issues if I get in the pool tomorrow. Hopefully I wouldn’t have the hand and foot problem others had as a side effect of the drug.
I asked today and was told obviously wit he lower blood count there’s a slight risk, but to make sure i wash off any chlorine afterwards as might irritate my skin. Seems sensible
I was on Ibrance and Faslodex for four and a half years and then got mets to liver; we tried Capacetabine (biosimilar to Xeloda) and unfortunately it gave me really bad "hand and foot syndrome" (felt like my feet were burning and they swelled up; even after being off it several weeks my hands still hurt a bit. Used ice, urea lotions, cortisone. Yuck. But I use my feet a lot for ballet exercises and tap dance. That may have been one issue. I'm on a whole nother round of stuff now--Paclitaxel and Avastin. But I've heard from women who had no problem with Xeloda--I had almost no problems with my previous regime, but other women had awful side effects with the same stuff. So my takeaway: bodies are different, but one thing that helps is being as active as you can--the gym, dance, whatever floats your boat.
Please be sure to be tested for DPD/DPYD deficiency prior to starting Xeloda - I lost my mother 2 years ago because she did not receive this simple blood test. You can find more about this at test4dpd.org
I was on letrozole and ibrance for 3 years. I felt the letrozole made some hair fall out and joint pain. I am taking fulvesterant now but just started it. Only taking that alone because. The other med of affinitor and aromasin were not working spread in 3-4 areas of bone. I don’t have it it must irgans but let’s see. My tumor markers increased 4-5 times higher. I hope it works for you. I think there are a lot On xeloda -check the forum.🙏✝️🌹
I had 2 cycles of xeloda already and about to start 3rd cycle. I’ve been attending aqua exercises once a week for 5 weeks now and it seems to be actually helping me as I always felt better after I get out of the water. However I had liver biopsy today because LFTs were deranged. My ferritin levels also has gone up. Im not real Aly sure now if xeloda is actually working. The ultrasonography said that I have few lesions on my right liver with the biggest about 4cm another about 2 cm and few others . Has anyone any experience similar to mine with LFTs continuing to rise while on xeloda. As I only had 2 cycles my onco thought I’d go to 3rd cycle as still too early to know effectiveness just after 2 cycles. However, with more lesions seen on ultrasound than my last PETScan Im not really sure if I should continue xeloda and wait until the end of cycle than see onco with bloods. However, second thoughts telling me to see onco earlier as ultrasound didn’t look too promising. From 2 lesions on Petscan done 2 months ago to having more than 3 lesions now on the liver I thought I should just see him earlier instead.
