I know there have been discussions on this site about Piqray, but I didn't pay attention. I'm now going on this drug. I'm terrified of the side effects. Please let me know your experience with the Piqray? Side effects? how bad? how manageable? Thanks.

I am on Piqray and it is similar to other drugs. I have excessive bowels with all the drugs. I feel most like my old self. I now have type 2 diabetes from Piqray. Only 20 percent of patients get this side effect. You can’t take insulin as it makes the cancer grow. If you get type 2 diabetes, Dr Flory at Memorial Sloan Kettering treats MBC patients worldwide. I had a telemedicine call with him today. I live 300 miles away and he monitors my diabetes through my Libre 2

Many cancer patients can’t tolerate Piqray. I have had good results. My PET scan is stable now and shows no activity.

Best to everyone on this journey. Reenie

Just like me. I could not continue on the Xeloda. The side effects were too much for me and I need to be able to take care of myself since I live alone. I had decided that I was done with treatment since the last rx of tamoxifen and afinitor did not stop the cancer from spreading in my liver. Then she rxed me the Xeloda which I tried and said Nope.

She is going to call me on October 7th and that was one of the other drugs she mentioned as a possibility. Like you, I am petrified and am thinking that maybe I am just done.

But the important thing to remember is that everybody is different. I had a very rough time in the beginning on ibrance. My week off I could not get out of bed. Meanwhile, I read other ladies felt better on their week off of it while others felt the same. And there was a percentage of women, like me, who felt awful on their week off.

I learned not to try and read too much about side effects bc then, like you, I get panicked and stressed. All you can do is try it and see how you react to it. I am still debating whether I even want to continue. I do not want to waste what time I have left feeling sick from side effects only to find out it didn't work anyway.

So just try it and see. You may be one of those women where the side effects are not as bad as you may read about. She sent me an email and did say I would have to be checked for some kind of test first before trying the Piqray. I tended to over-research too much and get myself all worked up.

This may be the drug that works fine for you. Just bc somebody else has had really bad side effects does not mean you will. Good luck!
