hi everyone I’m writing on behalf of my parent who is diagnosed with MBC to the bone since May of 2022 (ironically it’s my father- yes males do get MBC too!)- my parents primarily live in Florida but decided to seek treatment in NY at MSK when diagnosed. He plans to go back to Florida for good as he is retired. Does anyone in this group have 2 oncologists? He still wants to be involved at MSK in NY but wants to live in his home in Florida.
Thank you!

I live in FL about 200 days a year and NY the rest of the year. After trying three oncologists in FL, I have decided to continue to see my NY MD affiliated with Weil Cornell exclusively. Two oncs in FL both asked how long I would be in the state. I found that MDs with big reputations do not like to share. For me, it is best to concentrate on one MD who takes real ownership of me. I also like a MD in private practice with their own blood machine. In addition, if my case becomes more complicated etc, I might then look beyond NY or FL for a different specialist.
In conclusion, I tried to have two doctors with one in each state but it was unsatisfying for all involved. MDs have egos and like to be in charge.
I worked as a paralegal in NYC for years before being diagnosed. I do not think two oncologists in two different areas would work. First, would your insurance pay to see two different oncologists at the same time, second, you would have to expect them to share their ideas or tests, which may be time-consuming for them. More importantly, medical malpractice issues that could possibly arise. Very rarely will you see two doctors who will agree on the same line of treatment and expecting them to be able to collaborate with a different oncologist from another state I think is rare. Maybe if your main doctor, orders say falsodex injections, he can work it out so that you can get it at the hospital when you are in FL. Good luck.
Where will they be in FL? Asking as my MSK oncologist just got married and moved to Tampa. I would ask your MSK team if they have an idea of a doctor in FL. They may know of someone who had a fellowship with them who moved to FL. They had two great recommends to me in Seattle.
I think they will be honest about who they trust, or do not. Friends who have moved from NYC have been critical of FL doctors, but this may be from familiarity with their orig "home doctors."
Hi Jenniferp2122,I have 2 Oncologists. I have my local Onc here in NY, and I also am seen in Boston at Dana Farber. My care is directed by Dr. Lin at Dana. I think it is important to have a local Onc as well, in case of emergency etc. I see them monthly, and Dr. Cherney and Dr. Lin collaborate on my care. It all works out very well for me.
