Hair loss

Hi I’m new to the site just diagnosed with MBC, I have been given Letrazole and once back off a girls holiday will be put on Ibrance. On reading your site this concoction seems to thin hair, is there anyway to lessen the effect? I wish you all well in your treatments, I know I will feel down at certain points but going to live life to the full, have a good Sunday xx

I know they’re expensive but my first lot lasted nearly six months so not expensive when you divide it by 6...I feel much more confident and look quite glam...more than before mbc as my hair was a bit fine anyway and as the extensions are of good quality hair then if I straighten or style it...stays for longer

I use “Cel Med” drops .... been using for about 6 months and I can see new hair growth around my forehead. Don’t take Bioten.. it messes with the Ibrance somehow ♥️

I’m sorry ... CEL MD (auto correct). They have shampoo, conditioner, treatment drops, and a facial product. It is really good and not overly expensive. I promise it will make a huge difference!!!!!

Thanks Terilyn. I'm going to give it a try. I did try the tea trea for thinning hair but after a week I found it to be very drying.

What does biotin do? I have been taking so far no problems.

Terilyn12 profile image
Terilyn12 in reply to Mimigram

Levels of Biotin, according to the FDA, interfere with lab results because biotin technology is used in many assays to detect proteins in the blood. My oncologist also specializes in hemotology so is very in tuned to outside factors that and affect lab results ♥️

Do you know how it effects the lab tests? I take it and labs have been good so far. Knock on wood.

From all I read and been told by my oncologist - it can affect the results either positively OR negatively that is the issue!!

My hair thinned for the first 6 months or so, so I cut it short because it looked less thin that way. Now it is thickening up again, but it has changed texture somewhat and is much drier so I use a good shampoo and conditioner for dry hair and a hair oil. I don’t think any of us has been able to prevent what happens. We just find ways to deal with it.

Thank u thinking of using oil over night to keep it in condition and was thinking of having it cut short I’m just so undecided

It maybe I do, I love my hair at moment but maybe u r right, if I can get it healthy before then maybe if it doesn’t affect me I can always grow again xx

My hair has thinned but not noticeably, and a have a receding hair line at the temples which is hidden by the style. I think that's probably down to the reduction in female hormones. But if you didn't know I don't think you'd be aware that my hair has changed.

I have a short cut which makes it look thicker. I use a caffeine shampoo which seems to help reduce shedding, and I've stopped colouring my hair every 6 weeks, though I did use a semi permanent colour a few months ago to tone down the grey. I'm 51 and felt my natural colour was making me look older. Vanity, I know!

I'm on my 16th cycle of ibrance 125mg and faslodex.

Hi Julie I too am using the caffeine shampoo and have found it does help with the heat I have in my scalp I wash my head in cold water and dry in on the cold setting but I really need to put a colour on and I'm a bit scared.

Lots of ladies on this site continue to colour their hair. When my mother told me that my natural grey hair didn't suit me and made me look old(!) I used a semi permanent dye which doesn't have so many harsh chemicals and was very pleased with the result. It's gradually lightened with washing and given colour to the grey. And my mother approves!

Haha feeling old at moment, will still dye my hair but again may use a caffeine shampoo and a conditioner for the sun which softens it.

Hi welcome

I cut my hair short and still dye it. The cut did help it become thicker and it’s so easy- no maintenance.

Hi. Yes the hair thins. I tried an over the counter medication but it interfered with the chemo pills. My hair is growing back. I think of it as rebirth of my hair. I also have constipation and diarrhea issues. I use a heating pad as I have a lot of pain from these issues. Amazon has an extra large size. The brand is Pure Enrichment. You’ll want one before you need it. I travel with mine and am using it now.

I also have one on my chair at work. This is a wicked disease and we need to look for sisterhood and simple pleasures. Be well. Reenie

I had minimal thinning and take biotin 1xs/day; I have noticed since beginning 22 months ago. I have noticed if I forget a week of Biotin or try to stop-my nails become brittle and hair bit more coming off in shower and hairbrush when I stop-so it works. I also take caltrate and Tylenol for pain. I use Coconut oil about once a week! Good luck!

I found this web page very informative for those of you who are taking Biotin.
