I recently posted a pic of me scootering joyously around the small plane I had just been up in… everyone was so kind and encouraging. Just wanted to post an update. I had been out biking to 2 lakes and swimming in each, marveling how Verzenio has taken away my bone pains and have felt what I call a health surge over the past month. So grateful and my last scan has showed that all my Mets were stable and not lighting up… except that stubborn neck lymph node but it shrunk a lot. Any a few hours later, walking with my hubby, my dog ran into me knocking me down into pavement. Ugh! I woke up feeling like I have been run over. Bruised hip (where I have 4 spots of cancer in my pelvis) and sore back ( I forgot which L- number is my biggest worry tumor) and spent the nights with heating pad and ice… bummer! Double bummer because that same day my oncologist jumped through hoops to shcedule me for a last minute pet scan for this Tuesday before I fly off to see friends in Nz for a month while I was feeling so good.
So my worry is that now with this fall it will confuse the issue with and all the boo boos/ sore bits and that the inflammation is going to light up my scan like a Xmas tree when I was hoping for another good scan. My onc is suspicious because my markers rose 100 points a few weeks ago. Hence the scan.
my problem is I can’t postpone the scan because my trip is a few days later… and because he went to so much trouble to schedule this last min scan to help me. Not sure there is any solution as I am grateful for the great care that I have been given but I think it helps to share my apprehension..

Hi Beth, what a bummer about your fall which may (or may not) confuse the scan. Have the scan, take the trip and deal with the issues once you’re back home. Don’t put off the trip to Aotearoa - it will be the best medicine! I’m hoping to visit again early next year but can’t plan that far ahead just yet. Have a fantastic time, and wrap up warm!! 😉 Vicki
I hope all is ok with your scan and you get to go and enjoy a wonderful time away. It sounds like your oncologist is keen for you to go. Even if you have bruised yourself I don't see how your fall can change anything... luckily you didn't break anything! Take it gently and accept all offers of help!
So sorry about your fall. I know you dont want to tell your oncologist about the fall after going to great length to get The Pet scan scheduled. But I think you should call and tell him he might be more upset if you don't and then the scan doesnt tell him what he needs to know. Because as you said it may light up like a Christmas tree. It will be a waste of a pet scan time and money. I'm told not to do anything strenuous for 48 hours before a pet scan as it can cause false light ups. I'd let him make the decision on weather you should go through with the scan.
That is a bummer! I hope you heal quickly from the fall.
I agree with Justme 153, that as long as your oncologist knows about the injuries, they can determine whether it will affect the test, or at least they’ll understand why some things might be abnormal.
I hope it all turns out in your favour. Enjoy your trip!
When I get scanned, they make me fill out a questionnaire that asks if I am having a bout of arthritis, new procedures, bumps, falls or new bruises. The technician told me that it's because they want to know if something lighting up is just inflammation in certain areas. If you don't get to fill anything out like that, then make sure to inform the technician so that they can let the reading radiologist know. Also, let your doctor's office know as well, so that if anything lights up, no one worries. Then.....go on to your wonderful trip!
