SHOES

I need shoes/sneakers that are not hard on my feet but also pretty and also have support. Anybody have suggestions? I am stuck in a pair of sneakers even for work because my regular shoes are uncomfortable. Might sound silly but hey, here I am :)

Hi, Sketchers have a good range with memory foam cushioned insoles. I recently got multiple pairs for my mother and father in laws who both have foot issues. One has bunions and the other has circulation problems after recent leg operations. They are both very happy with the comfort and support of their new shoes.Hope this helps.

Best wishes

Have you checked out the clog like shoes nurses wearing on their ten hour shifts?

My friends - nurses - are addicted to them. Check out Amazon!

I'm addicted to Birkenstocks at the moment. They come in some cool colours now.

They are amazingly supportive for the foot and very well designed!

Hi! My doctor recommended Brooks walking and cross trainers and Gdefy Might Walks. Best investment I’ve ever made! I have Metz in my spine and these tennies have saved my back, and I’m walking 3 miles a day now with their help! Hope you find what you need!

Vionic shoes are supportive and comfortable. They may have options to try.

I wear New Balance for walking and in general when it's not too hot. I find/wear sandals from Marshalls that are made in Italy or Spain. there are a few different brands. My most recent purchase is "Bio-Gold" Made in Spain. It's usually the ones cheaply produced in china that hurt my feet. I've always had foot issues. I have high arches and I find these shoes made in Italy or Spain, snug up to my arches. I also have a bunion on my right foot. complete w/a hammer toe. I used to wear Fit Flops, but prefer to have some other type/material in the foot bed. Also I stay away from thong types with the thingy between my toes. Criss cross straps are my faves. And Espadrilles.

I see a lot of people recommend Sketchers, but I have never had a pair that were comfy. Too flimsy, and the "memory foam" insoles crush down and there is zero support. And they are UGLY.

New Balance is pricey, but have good support. The sandals I get at Marshalls are reasonably priced for the quality. I can shoot photos if you'd like later.

My sister is a nurse and she wears Brooks.

Shoes are difficult. Comfort and good looks can be had, but it ain't easy. Gotta shop around.

I love shoes. All the best in your search!

I'm 67 and like to dress appropriately for my young age!!!

🙂

Yes Portugal, Spain and Italy all make much better quality shows in general than elsewhere. New Balance can be good but they are hit and miss, just like Nike and the other well-known brands. They all make both high but also low quality models so one has to choose wisely

White lace up Nikes are my go to, the ones I have go well with dresses and are very gentle on my poor feet, but I rely on others to do my laces 😭 I am also a fan of Birkenstock, pricey and not particularly ‘good looking’ but again gentle on my feet.I find anything that’s not completely flat with cushioned soles are really good for me, but unfortunately most are pricey!

I am a huge fan of Taos shoes and sandals. Built in support and cool looking. I even have two pairs of their Crave boots and I can wear them for hours. Not cheap, but they wear really well. I now have dropped foot as a radiation side effect and miss wearing many of them, but can wear the Crave without my brace.

I second Taos as AvidBooklover mentioned. they make sandles/shoes that are so cute and very comfy at same time. a lot of others mentioned sneakers but you mentioned that is what you are wearing now and you want something different and cute. Taos are comfortable and supportive at same time. I am a fan of their 'the Universe' sandle as well as the 'Trulie'. I loved mine so much I bought each of my 2 daughters a pair and they loved them as well. you can find on-line at Taosfootwear.com. they are pricey. but worth it.

Have you tried Clark's? They are always comfortable and can be worn for hours. Doesn't matter what style you choose. They are good.

Vionics has some really cute sneakers with wonderful arch support. And I’m in love with their house slippers. Manon

I have foot issues, too. Orthofeet and Propet work best for me. They come with removable in soles that offer some support. I recently bought OTC foam insoles from Dr. Scholl. They come as "cut to fit" with a pattern that shows multiple sizes. They add a layer of cushioning that really helps my feet. I recently went to the GoodFeet Store. They find your pressure points and provide a hard arch support (guuaranteed for lie!) and a soft insole that goes over that. Not cheap..a little over $500 but somewhat better for methan other things I've tried. IF you find a good looking shoe that is also comfortable, please let us know!

Hi Krupa, I found Easyspirit shoes very comfortable, particularly Motion and AP1.Unfortunately, they are no longer available in Europe. My Physiotherapist recommends ASICS

I have skechers, Clark’s both have cute styles with comfort and lots of choices. But vionic and Birkenstock are very good too just not as many style choices. I like them all just depends on what your looking for. I just bought a pair of really cute Clark sandals and I got a compliment on them the other day and they were really cute and comfortable. But I also bought sketchers to walk in casual type and those are great.

WOW, thank you so much everyone for your contributions towards my shoe comfort and style. I have my assignments from everyone, clarks, birkenstocks, vionics, nike, clogs, brooks, gdefy, sketchers, taos, orthorfeet, goodfeet, propet, easyspirit, dr. scholl etc. Anyone else with foot issues, here is the list. Thank you so much. I will let my fingers and eyes do the walking and research all.

I'm wondering if the clogs are Crocs? Many nurses in my hospital wear them.....

kearnan profile image
kearnan in reply to valentinecalico

I believe they are crocs. And all the nurses and technicians all wear them and they wear the flashy type. I never knew they came with so many designs, but in their jobs standing most of day, they need comfort but still want those "designer" crocs)

The very best of all is Hoka’s which were invented by ultra marathoners who need max cuss ion if for running over 50 mile races! Nurses are all using them now and are often referred to as Cloud Pillows! I have terrible flat feet and wear orthotics and these have been heaven!

I saw no one mentioned Hoka one one. I saw a lot of nurses wear them. Both my husband and I have problems on spine and hip joints. We tried a lot of different brands name sneakers and this one came out the best.

Private message me your email address and I will send photos of what I have in my closet to see what you like. Some are pretty broken in. Quick note: I am a bit swamped at the moment as my mom who is 93 fell and broke some bones, thus we are dealing with rehab and my dad who thinks all will be the way it was! So do tweak me if you do not hear from me by the weekend!!

hi Carol. I'm sorry to hear of your Mom's mishap. challenging to care for elderly parents. mine are both deceased now but I had several years of being both their primary caretaker and medical manager and ultimately I hospiced them both at home (not at same time) where they died peacefully surrounded by family. it was hard work and emotionally challenging and yet I am grateful that I had the opportunity to do so. paying it forward. hope your Mom's pain is controlled and that she makes a full and speedy recovery without complications. also hoping your Dad can adjust with time.

thinking of you and sending hugs.

carole💛

AvidBooklover profile image
AvidBooklover in reply to kokopelli2017

Thank you for your note. This really is a challenge as my dad lives in some fantasy land where they are not 93!!! They live in the same multi-level home that I grew up in and my dad sees her coming home to that same life. My sister lives in Atlanta and she leaves tomorrow. Mom is really not even ready for rehab; I think she needs more hospital time. This is going to be very interesting. I really try to keep my stress levels low these days, but this is going to be quite a ride.

I called the social worker at the hospital this morning...which I SHOULD have done on Monday. I assumed everyone was on the page we were supposed to be on. WE are not. She was calm and rational and will call me later. Let's now see how this goes.

kokopelli2017 profile image
kokopelli2017 in reply to AvidBooklover

Carol....luckily your Mom and Dad have you to 'manage' their care❤️. although there will always be a hiccup or two along the way. I feel sad for those who have no one to advocate for them and unable so do so on their own. medical system can be so difficult to navigate these days.

hope your Mom is doing okay and is where she should be at present🤞.

your parents are fortunate to have you!

carole XO

Between the social worker at the hospital and the intake manager at the rehab, I feel like we are getting the story together. Which will help. Dad keeps telling me not to be involved, and asks how I know so much, so I tell him that I am reading all this info online! Thanks for the support!!!

If you have Medicare you may qualify for a custom-made pair of shoes by a certified orthopedic shoe designer. The styles to choose from have come a long way, I have a friend who has neuropathy and is diabetic who gets a new pair every few years. These would be 300-500 dollar shoes with special orthotics and supports built in. Just an idea you may want to explore.

Kruza profile image
Kruza in reply to fancydog

Have not qualified for Medicare yet, 62 years old and still working but would like to stop because this fatigue is exhausting in and of itself without the added stress of work and a non compassionate supervisor.

kearnan profile image
kearnan in reply to Kruza

You would automatically qualify for Medicare after being on SSDI for two years. I was put on a NYC special Medicaid when first diagnosed. I paid for nothing. Only those with stage iv breast cancer, pancreatic and ovarian cancer qualify for that special medicaid, but obviously you cannot be working. I had no idea when I was switched to Medicare after two years, that one had to pay for it and that Medicare hardly paid for anything.

Thank God they had social workers and lawyers and I did a pooled trust, so now I have dual coverage. And I do not understand this part, but since stage iv breast cancer, one can qualify for SSDI and get automatic approval under compassionate allowance but still one does not receive any money FOR THE FIRST FIVE MONTHS. It is a waiting period. That is what did me in financially was that waiting period. They will count from the day you stopped working, not when diagnosed.

It is a maze of nonsense restrictions. I am just happy that I had help bc I had no clue what was involved. I do not know how you work.

Sister/Thriver I really can not be without these stylish comfort brands :) : Naturalizer, Aerosoles, lifeStride, and there are some Walmart comfort brand shoes/sneakers also :) . Check online Amazon.com, and Walmart.com :) .If I purchase cheaper shoes I make sure to get a half sized bigger, and add generic insoles, along with a half sole arch support insole(s).😇 I hope this helps

I have the Easy Spirit open back mule shoes in every imaginable color (about $70). Not only are they unbelievably comfortable, but I do not have to even bend down bc they are open back and I just slide my foot right into. (I get the wide since now my feet have swelled a bit since I started these type of drugs.
