Ibrance, and back pain

I am on my last week of my second round of ibrance. The last week or so I have been experiencing sharp back pain in my lower back. I also have joint pai in my joints. Has anyone else experienced this? I have mets in my spine, but not in the same area that I am having pain. I see my oncologist on Wednesday, so I will talk to him about it. We wont redo scans until December. I just wanted to get some feed back from fellow stage 4 ladies.

Are u on anything else? When I was on letrozole there were days I felt crippled with joint pain. A lot better on faslodex.

Shanna, I have some joint pain sometimes, not all the time thankfully abd no sharp pains. I hope you'll find out what cayses it

Hi...when I went on Ibrance and Letrozole my doctor told me to take two glucosamine chondroiten pills daily to help with any joint pain I might get. So far, it seems to be helping. Worth a try.

Hey Shanna, I had experienced a bruised feeling in my ribs. Originally, I was scheduled for scan at 6 months. I told oncologist of the bruised feeling and requested to move up. He agreed. Ibrance did not work for me. It was a mixed result.

But, that said, I imagine if some tumors shrink that there could be discomfort leading to pain. So, I’d just push to get your scan done sooner - even if just 2 weeks sooner.

🤗

I have the feeling of bruised ribs too. I did originally have the pain in my upper back near the bra hook, that's where the cancer cells were found. It was 9n August 22nd, and there weren't any tumors yet. Just free floating cancer cells. So I did 5 days of radiostatic radiation and now I am on my second round of ibrance. I have pain now in one vertebra, but it isn't anywhere near the original cancer. It is on my lower back where the deep part of the curve is. And rib bruise pain. But I did a lot the last few days trick or treating with my kids and doing volunteer stuff at their school.

Hi, Shanna! I also have mets to spine and have been on the Ibrance/Letrozole protocol since December 2017. I was also receiving a monthly injection of Xgeva until recently changed to every 3 months. My back and joint pain were severe in early months but rarely evident anymore.

Have you had any radiation to spine? That can help tremendously with back pain; I had 10 treatments at outset of my diagnosis. I also continue to take acetaminophen (Tylenol) as needed.

In my own experience, it just seemed as if the pain subsided over time, as the tumors reduced in size; also the joint pain completely disappeared where, in the early months, it seemed to be extreme during one week each month. I do believe that your body will sometimes adjust to "new normal" with meds.

Prayers and love to you on this journey! XXOO Linda

Thanks Linda, I think I'm experiencing the adjustment phase. It only seems to really bother me on my last week of meds before I get the week off. I keep thinking it is the cancer being killed. I did 5 rounds of radiation which helped a lot. When I take pain meds it goes away. I just hate taking that stuff.

Hi,

Yes I have joint stiffness big time- knees, hips, elbows, neck and lower back. Movement helps more than anaything! Gentle and deep stretches help me daily as well as outdoor walks on trails.

I’m looking for friends in my area that are battling like me that I can meet for tea or walks. I’m in Connecticut, you close by?

Hi Shannanamilton -

I realize this is an old post, but did you ever figure out what was causing your lower back pain? I'm experiencing similar and am wondering if it's related to mineral deficiencies or something else...I hope you're doing well! Lynn

It was due to metastasized breast cancer. If you're having back pain I suggest you get it looked at. The spine is one of the first places it goes.
