Scan done but Tech asked if I had lung surgery?

I hate these scans. The Tech asked if I had lung surgery? I did have my port removed but that’s not in my lung. I’m so scared I called the Oncologist. Of course they just said that they have not heard anything from Radiology. Said they would call if they heard anything. I hate acting this way but I know I have cancer, so it’s like I feel they think the same way. If most everyone understands the struggle and stress we deal with, but most don’t. Being a Nurse I always tried to put myself in my patients shoes, it’s hard even if you try your best, you can’t. Thanks for letting me vent.❤️

Maybe the port is showing scar tissue near lung. But I do agree a radiologist should not ask questions that will now upset you. They should have results in a day or two. Do you have mychart on phone?

Thanks, that is maybe all it is. No I need to find out about it. I usually just go by and pick them up. But thanks so much again.

Hey Clair

Could it be that they see scarring in your chest/lung area from the old port? The port wasn’t in your lungs but was in your chest. I don’t see how lesions would look like surgery. Easier said than done: take a deep breath and wish for that which needs to be known (a tip I got on this board). Then stay busy. Let us know the outcome. A hug and a good intention sent your way. And it’s true about how no one, even a health care professional, knows how we hang on every word and every facial expression. I’m a nurse also. This has certainly made me much more aware of patient fears and anxieties. 💕

Thanks I feel better today and sorta feeling silly as I probably over reacted. I called the imaging place back and she said that is probably what the technician was questioning. I guess she was going by what somebody asked her to find out. They will see on old scans I had a port. Anyway thanks for your input, I do appreciate it.

We are dealing with a big deal, so any inference that something is new or worse is bound to push our buttons. Glad it was that simple.

Oh yeah this must be time for my annual freak out session...😁... Anytime I’m getting a scan I just melt. Everyone is telling me it’s going to be okay! I know they are trying to be supportive but they really don’t understand like we do. I have a friend who just comes out with it, she tells you just how she feels and until you walk in our shoes you don’t understand anything. I can’t be that bold.

Everybody has their own style. There are times I can be outspoken, but I was rais d to finesse a situation, so if the person is merely ignorant, stupid or innocently thoughtless, I try not to pounce. The hospitals send so many post visit surveys I write about stuff like this. Or write your own letter and send it. I usually take a Xanax or two around scan time. Especially pre scans cause it’s all day and I just want to numbly get thru it. I understand that remark was the icing on the cake for you. We all want it to be your old port site. It seems logical. You won’t know for sure until you meet with your doctor. When will that be? I think scan time brings up the whole wretched business of having mbc. we are thrown off center. Whatever truce we’ve made with fear and anxiety is stretched to the brraking point. It’s probably our worst time(s) of the year. Do you have any meditation tapes you can Listen to or put on some rock music and dance around your house. It all sounds trite but I’ve been known to do this. Thank goodness my house faces the woods. 😱

Ha ha my husband would love for me to dance around, however with him I need to be careful.😉. Yes I took a Valium before, didn’t help. But I just had it taken out a week ago he had a time getting it out. Yes I told her I had mbc, so you would think she would know anything would make me worried. Maybe it’s just me, they probably see way more than mbc. I started tapping, so just beginning. I just know Monday I will be a wreck thinking the worst. If we just had a crystal ball 🔮. Anyway thanks for listening to my little rambling. I will let you know when I get home. Thanks so much for making me feel better.

Hi Clair19. I would agree with others that have commented that is most likely is scar tissue. Easier said than done, but try to distract yourself until u get the results. Let us know and best wishes your way.

Good luck Monday. It is probably from the port. I wish you the best! Breathe.
