Foot Cramps from IBrance?

hopenowandtomorrow profile image

In the last 2 weeks (I’m on the end of my 4th round of IBrance) I have been experiencing painful foot cramps. I drink lots of water, take 240 mg of Magnesium/day, and wear only comfortable/supportive shoes. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, what helped you?

yes. I suffered this only during the fourth cycle. I don't know why that happened. Then it took off and it didn't happen again. I'm going through cycle 11. Happy day 🌺

Thank you! I will start taking my vitamin D with the Magnesium & Calcium. I normally take the vitamin D at night & the others in the morning.

Suggest getting your vitamin D level checked once it is at least in the range of normal start taking 4000 units daily. Good luck I've had the foot and leg cramps they can be terrible, taking the same meds/supplements, will go for long times without cramps.

Hi hope...!

This sounds a lot like a potassium deficiency. I've had the same on and off....hurts like crazy, right?! :) I don't recall why, but potassium deficiency is a big deal w/ our disease/treatment....my levels are monitored closely and sometimes they put me on prescription potassium pills, which are huge, so to avoid this I try to eat potassium-rich foods. Hope that helps!

I have them too and have discovered they are much worse if my feet get cold. So you will find me in the middle of summer with big fleecy slippers on my feet while I’m wearing shorts and a T-shirt!

Odd you should mention that. I'm on 75mg Ibrance and letrozole. I'm prone to muscle cramps to begin with, but specifically, I've started get a cramp in my right foot when I wake up almost every morning. Sometimes, my left foot, but almost always my right foot every day. I take extra magnesium for GI problems, but it doesn't do anything for the cramps. My potassium level is well within the normal range, so I don't have a clue. I just get up and walk it off.

All I know is ... if I have cramps or charlie horses, potassium gets rid of them pronto! my mama preached potassium all my life and I guarantee, it works. I don't understand how but I know it DOES. I take the cheap brand 99 mg. and I don't take it all the time, only when I have cramping. God bless you! <3 xo

Lots of food with high potassium: oranges, orange juice, white or sweet potatoes (one medium potato with skin is 800mg potassium), bananas, oranges, cantaloupe, honeydew, apricots, grapefruit (some dried fruits, such as prunes, raisins, and dates), even a glass of milk has about 250mg potassium. I think it's always better to get your vitamins and minerals from real food as opposed to supplements. Instead of four potassium capsules, just eat an orange!

not sure if you are all aware; but I’ve been told and you can do search in this Forum & others:

No Grapefruit or Pomegranite while on IBRANCE—I forget why!! It’s been 2 years for me and I miss both!

I just did a quick cut-and-paste of that part; didn't even notice the grapefruit juice. Thanks for correcting me.

I don't even like grapefruit juice, but as soon as you tell me I can't have something, I want it!

Also love to hear you've been (apparently successfully) on Ibrance for 2 years; I'm at 17 months and doing well.

sounds like an electrolyte imbalance, drinking lots of water can actually cause this. you need a mix of calcium, potassium and sodium. maybe a zinc tab too.

I use a prescription Magnesium Cream that I put on my calves and feet nightly. It is amazing. Ask your Dr or Naturopathic Dr

Hi. Yep me too. On my 4th cycle of Ibrance and Letrozole.

I thought it was whenever I drank gin!!!!

I take an effervescent electrolyte tablet if I exercise or drink alcohol - and it seems to prevent them. My bloods have always been normal for calcium.

A friend gets the cramps and she is only on Letrozole.

😂 You are the 2nd person to reply with foot cramps on your 4th IBrance cycle. Does your tablet reduce the side effects from the gin too?? Thank you!
