Hormone therapy…

Hi ladies. I’ve noticed lots of you ladies are on Faslodex. What is the difference between Letrozole and Faslodex. I’ve googled it and it says it the same hormone therapy. Then why some people here on Faslodex? Is it better in terms of tolerance and why shots?

Thank you,

Saba

I was on Letrozole for 7 years. When they found my met in my hip, it showed that had failed and I went on Faslodex shots, which as not a big deal to me though I do loathe I need to be somewhere every four weeks, The first time I got them the nurse told me that the woman before me was headed horseback riding right after she got her shots. I am not sure if she was making this up, but I keep that in the back of my head at every appt.

Saba, I feel better on Faslodex than I did on Letrozole. Less side effects. Don't know if they are the same.

Hi Saba,I was on Letrozole for almost 10 years before we found that cancer had spread to a very small place in my lung. It did it’s job for quite awhile! Faslodex only comes in shot form right now but several ladies have posted that there is a pill version hopefully coming soon. For me Faslodex has been less side effects just have a few days where my whole body aches. If you get an experienced nurse giving you the shots, not too much pain from those. Massage the areas, apply heating pad if you need to and get moving. Sometimes the aches & pains make you want to just stay in bed but movement is actually best. Hope you have a good experience on either med!! ❤️😊

Thank you Alicia. I feel like mom gets more and more fatigue. Not sure if it’s from Ibrance or letrozole.

Hi SabaAKLetrozole and Falsodex are indeed both for estrogen positive metastatic breast cancer. They are not the same drug, each works differently, but still are to inhibit estrogen.

From what I have read faslodex is for Estrogen + and the other hormone drugs are for different hormone problems.

As Shaesmom said, they both work against estrogen+ cancer but they do work differently. I think Faslodex is more designed to specifically work in tandem with Ibrance, they way they work together to prevent the cancer but letrozole is very effective too. I don't think one made me more tired than the other (I had letrozole by itself until I got mets). The thing with Ibrance is to ensure your mum drinks a LOT of water. These drugs are very dehydrating and if you're not well hydrated that will definitely add to one's fatigue. I try to drink 2 glasses of water with my pills and about a glass an hr during the day. If I forget I will see my energy sink noticeably.
