Rectal prolapse

Hi everyone and Happy Easter - hope the sun is shining where you are. It's beautiful here! (UK).

Unfortunately I think I have a rectal prolapse :( . I had a soft mass pop out this morning. It's more or less gone back in now but googling tells me that it won't be a one-off.

I have real difficulties with constipation because of being on long-term morphine, and also I am not as active as I was (get out most days to walk the dog but that's it). I take senna and docusate sodium but I still don't "go" every day, this morning was successful but first time for 4-5 days.

Anyway has anyone had a rectal prolapse? Did it resolve itself (? Is that possible) or otherwise what treatment have you had / has it been successful? Will pelvic floor exercises help?

Thanks for any advice 🙏

Lucy

Hi Lucy, Gosh, I'm so sorry about the issue you're experiencing!

I wasn't familiar with "rectal prolapse" so just searched on it....I still can't claim to fully understand but what you describe also sounds similar to a hemorrhoid issue a family-member had many years ago? The hemorrhoid would pop out sometimes and could be pushed back in?

Obviously talk to your doc, but I would imagine that hemorrhoids are pretty common in folks with constipation? I'm hoping that's what it is...

Best,

Lynn

Good morning.

Since my second delivery I experienced problems with hemorrhoids. I had a major surgery after my first diagnosis of breast cancer. I improve but reappeared. Currently what has worked for me is taking Miralax and lots of water. And try to walk as much as possible. Take care of yourself

hi Lucy. my daughter had a recent prolapse of her bowel coming into her vagina after delivering her 2nd 10b baby. ouch! that is a true prolapse and not a hemorrhoid. so it can actually happen. but from your wording i can't distinguish....well no other way to say this....but when you popped it back in....where did you push from.... the butt or the Vag? sorry if graphic. i am RN so it seems important to ask.

if a true prolapse....i have some info to share from my daughter's recent experience.

oh, and i use Miralax too with lots of water and works well.....

sorry for your issue and discomfort...

I have a rectal relapse. I went to the doctor and she sent me to a pelvic health place. The only way it can be fixed is through surgery and not guaranteed. Because of heart issues I chose not to have surgery. It goes in when you lay down,

Hi Ursula, were you able to find out what this was?

hello,

I have more or less confirmed it to myself as a rectal prolapse. It does pop out if the stools are hard (ahem -- sorry TMI), but always goes back in again and I do my best to keep things nice and soft (lots of laxative and keeping hydrated) so it doesn't happen too often. Thank goodness...

Hth. Good luck with any bowel issues you are experiencing,

Lucy
