Faslodex and skin issues

Does anybody have skin problems with Faslodex? I developed pimples and itchy bumps on my face and under my hair. Went to a dermatologist, who says it’s a side affect of Faslodex. It’s not on the list of common side affects.

Hi

I’m not on the same blocker…I’m taking Letrozole and Goserelin. In the beginning of my treatments these were combined with Ribociclib and with these medications I experienced the same sort of rash that you describe but I had it all over my arms and legs. It was like a heat rash that took weeks to go down.

Is it hot weather where you are? Mine came up in the middle of summer after some heavy duty gardening. My oncologist also said in was a reaction to the meds…without being specific about which one.

Thank you for responding. Mine does not go away, hopefully antibiotics will help. I am probably the only person in the world who is happy to wear a mask.

Though I am on Ibrance and letrozole I mainly have bumps in my scalp along hair line at back of head and rarely on my face. When I mentioned it to my oncologist was told it was not a side effect. Good to know it likely is Letrozole.

My oncologist was totally uninterested. It’s a small price to pay, but still annoying and bothersome.

I don't have any skin issues on Faslodex. When I was on tamoxifen I had a lot of facial acne.

Thank you for responding. I was surprised when out of the long list of medications my dermatologist right away said ‘Faslodex’.

I went to the dermatologist yesterday for a terrible itchy rash on my scalp. She gave me Clobetasol. I'm not sure it's helping. I've been on fulvestrant since November.

I started taking mild antibiotic twice daily and will try it for 10 days. Was told there is no shampoo that can help with itchy bumps, but just in case I switched to my granddaughter’s baby shampoo. I’ll write to you if antibiotic works.

I use T Gel shampoo per my dermatologist and any conditioner. I have a prescription medication for the itching. Haven’t used it lately. Also my scalp is very dry so I only wash my hair once a week. Reenie .

I got bad facial acne with faslodex.

Thank you for responding. Did it go away on it’s own or did you use any medication or products?

I started using facial cleanser and that cleared it up although didn't fix it all. I would get flares maybe 2 weeks after getting faslodex shots. I don't know if it matters which facial cleanser you use. I have very sensitive skin so I found something "organic", "hypoallergenic" and so on. I avoid astringent products such as witch hazel because it really dries out my skin. Also sodium laureth sulfate makes my skin very dry. My case wasn't serious enough to see a dermatologist, but you should definitely see one if you can't manage it on your own.

Thank you for responding. I did go to the dermatologist and he prescribed oral antibiotic and antibiotics face cream. I started a couple of days ago and see no results yet. Changing face wash is a good idea.

I've read that for face care products it might take a week or two for the skin to get used to it and to see the effects. Not sure about the antibiotic creams but maybe it's similar. In case you are interested, I use the Onsen Milk Lotion Cleanser morning and night, followed by Cocokind rose water for toner + either an Onsen face moisturizer or Cocokind celery seed face cream, depending on how I feel. When it's hot and humid I have to skip the face moisturizer because my pores get clogged very easily. I could see everything start clearing up in a day, but this was maybe because I was not really using anything besides soap and water before.

Thank you for responding. You are right, it will take some time to see or not see the improvement, I just have to be patient and not look in the mirror.

Yes I do have bumps on my scalp and sometimes get itchy bumps on my skin. I read that the scalp bumps can be folliculitis which is from the Ibrance rather than faslodex.

I have been on Faslodex since March of 2019. I have not had any skin issues. The only side effects I have had is itching for a few days after the injections and sometimes bruising. I feel the bruising is due to the way the nurses are giving me the shots.

I took Ibrance for a couple of years and never had skin issues. Go figure.

HiI have been on faslodex for two years. I think Claritin sounds like a good idea. Over time my body has gotten more used to it. It is really important to get the nurses to give the injections the right way and warm the medicine. Good luck and I hope your side effects will get better soon. Susie

I will be starting Faslodex next Tuesday. Yikes! One more thing to look out for! I know we all want to live but all these side effects (even though not deadly but very annoying) make us all heroines for enduring!

Good luck with Faslodex. This is not a common side effect, so hopefully you won’t get it.

Hi mbogorad. I am on Faslodex and Ibrance and don’t have quite the same skin issue but mine all over is dry and flaky and the bottoms of my feet are cracking and peeling. I hope you find some relief soon. 👍

I had the same issue with Ibrance with my fingertips. Tried every product under the sun and wore cotton gloves in the winter. It went away.

Hi, I have just started on Fulvestrant (Faslodex) a few days ago so I can’t really help with your issue, but you have been given some helpful tips from others here.I’ve had acute tummy pain since then which feels like trapped wind and a mild headache. Did you suffer this and does it settle down on its own?

mbogorad profile image
mbogorad in reply tostardust1965

No, I don’t have this issue and did not have it when I was taking Ibrance. Hope it goes away for you.

Thank you. I’m pleased you didn’t! The drugs side affect are different for as all. I hope you find a solution to your issues too. 🤞

I have been on Falsodex since 2018. I was told Claritin would help. I started taking it & it helped a lot. I very rarely have that problem anymore. I had itching around the injection sites. Kelly

Good afternoon, I have been on Faslodex for four months now. I started getting a rash of pimple type bumps on my cheeks and nose. These are painful and burn. I read an article states not no use any product with alcohol in it. I started using Neutrogena face products for sensitive skin. This has helped mine a lot. The bumps on my scalp are small but the same. I hope my suggestion help yours. Jen

Thank you for responding. My dermatologist prescribed a prescription strength regime, hopefully it will help. Oral antibiotic did not work. I started using Benadryl at night to help with the itchy bumps, and that works.
