I am doing well on Xeloda but my oncologist and I are always discussing next steps. I am NOT triple negative nor do I have the BRACA mutation BUT have the ATM mutation. My doc wants to try and get my insurance to approve a PARP inhibitor for my next treatment because it is approved for the ATM in other cancers. We did a test run with my insurance and I was denied this medication (via an automated computer voice message). I know that a few of you are on top of this research and fresh from the San Antonio conference (as was my doc) so can anyone point me to any current research that might help me argue my case with my insurance when I need to change meds? THX XOXOXO

Lymparza PARP Inhibitors
Hi, I like your proactive attitude! I'm sorry I don't have insurance help, but I might suggest looking into the pharma company that makes the PARP inhibitor. Often the companies will have something called compassionate use and you can get the drug for free. I was able to get that for Keytruda before it was generally approved for MBC through the company Merck. My MO's office helped me quite a bit in securing it. I was on that program for two years. Best of luck! Lynn
You are amazing! Thank for all of this data! I actually saw my November scan compared to last February and the bone mets were basically completely gone. My CA15 and CEA are creeping up by 50 points a month though so we are talking about options. Not thrilled about IV chemo but I also know its inevitable and Ive had a good run without it. Blessed. Merry Christmas!
you and all of you ladies are a true blessing for me - thank you
Hi Sandra, i am intrigued by the new studies adding herceptin to Hormone positive meds for treatment. Apparently, it is on a fast track now. My original MODan Hayes was partners with Mark Lipman whom you probably know discovered the HER2 gene. When they left NIH, after this AND they had pharmaceutical company make the drug herceptin--they the went to Georgetown Lombardi to run the study. My good friend was their PA and she connected me with them for an appointment, which was fairly impossible at that time. I choose Hayes because his personality was easier to deal with. This was in 1998/9. I remember well that they were super excited about the drug and results they were seeing of tumors "melt away" and it was so tolerable. Anyway, it will be interesting to see what the study brings to the market and when.
So I know this post is a yr old but after our recent discussion regarding liver mets, you said you're now having success with Troveldy so I decided to do a quick review of some your posts. Wow, are you still NOT a triple neg? I'm wondering if you had a more recent check of the genetic make-up of your cancer - or if this drug has already shown to also help estrogen+ cancers? TIA!
I was thinking the same thing - they retested my original biopsies from 4 years ago - I think a new test would show triple neg but I don't know if it would be worth it to go through it
Oh no, probably not worth it now you're on it and it seems to be working? I was checking/wondering if I had missed more about the drug Troveldy than what is mostly presented about it. I guess you don't really know either. I might do a little read up on it now though , in case it could have potential to help me down the road. Thanks!
