Taking an OTC for immediate relief?

Can anyone tell me: I'm on Faslodex, Ibrance, Xgeva. I have a bacterial bladder infection (getting antibiotic today!). Does anyone know of any reasons to NOT take Uristat Ultra UTI Pain Relief Tablets until the pain and burning and continual urination stops? (Due to interactions with MBC meds) Thank you all in advance!!♥️♥️

Hi Sweetiepie,

I don't know anything about that drug that you are taking for your UTI so I cannot be very helpful with that but have learned something very helpful from a doctor at our Urgent Care Clinic on the Island. I was having endless bladder infections - sometimes one every month. And I was getting very run down.

On my last visit to the Urgent Care to get some antibiotics I learned something that is helping me. The woman doctor who saw me told me to drink a tall glass of water with every meal. I do this quite faithfully now and that is about six or more months ago and I haven't had any bladder infections since I started doing this. This info might not help you at the moment but it is something to remember for the future as a preventative. We women might be getting UTIs because we are often dehydrated. So this is something to think about. I am so happy it is working for me.

Thank you! I drink about 2 liters of water every day of my life! Have for years. Also drinking Cranberry juice. Haven't had a UTI for about 25 years so....somebody told me it happens more often as we age. That's not good!😆

Yes I was told plenty of water. My last infection was after a spell of very hot weather when I'd been quite active and I don't think I'd upped my liquids enough. X

I don't know about that medication. But my oncologist told me to take cranberry juice. I have biona every day , a small amount diluted with a little pure honey. I recently had three weeks of antibiotics to clear pilophrenitis and bacterial infections of urinary tract. The hospital took me off my ibrance to ensure the IV antibiotics worked. But that was because the infection had taken hold. I had two weeks meds from hospital then after testing by gp had a further week then another test to ensure it had cleared. They seemed to think I'd had a low level infection for some time that hadn't cleared so do be careful. I had normal painkillers, paracetamol and codeine.

I hope you soon feel well again. Carolyn x

Ps a friend who uses natural remedies recommended something called Uva ursi, I have tried but I noted you should only take it a limited number of times in a year. Maybe someone else in the group knows more about this. I certainly dont think any of these remedies work without antibiotics but may help with prevention or relief of symptoms.

Thank you, Carolyn! Your UTI sounds terrible. I hope your infection is all gone now. I'm drinking C juice & tons of water.

Whenever I had sensation of potential bladder infection, I literally started guzzling cranberry juice. This creates acidic environment in your bladder. It works like a charm. Hope your antibiotics have kicked in. It is such a miserable, painful infection.

Thank you, Linda. I do the same! This UTI just wouldn't go away so stuck with 500mg Cipro. That should kick it.

oh wow, I just recovered from a UTI. Doc told me to rest more, take lots of fluid but the dilemna was, I had no control with my bladder which was frustating. I got on antibiotics, took time off work a couple days, rested, all better now. It knocked me out, like I had very little energy. Hope you feel better soon 🤐

in reply to SusieIM

Thank you, Susie! No bladder control here either! Very busy, making a trail to the bathroom & back. Exhausted. Thank you!❤

I think you have the bladder UTIs under control. My mother never had a UTI in her whole life and she lived to 94 and when I think back I remember her drinking many, many cups of very weak tea - all day long. It was always tea time at mom's place. And she drank it very weak. So all that fluid must have been protecting her. I am happy to hear that you have not had that problem because it is very uncomfortable and demoralizing also. So keep up the fluid intake! Hugs Marlene

The water is important and cranberry juice but also yogurt. I eat Greek yogurt everyday because I found some that I love. But back in March I had to do IV antibiotics everyday for six weeks and didn’t have any problems. Good luck those are so hard to live with.

Hi SweetiePie! I have had several UTI’s since March. Have been on 3 different antibiotics and keep getting them. I am 63 and haven’t had one since my 20’s so this has been a crazy ride with them. Have been advised to take a supplement called D-Mannose by my Onc and to see a Urologist to schedule a scope of my bladder. Haven’t tried any OTC meds. Will wait for something definitive from Urologist. I certainly feel your pain….hope you get relief.

Thank you, Gingerann1!! Finally got Cipro and UTI is finally gone! I know things could have been worse. But it's just one thing after another! Thank God for my sense of humor!😁🙏
