Hello Everyone. Nice to be able to work with you today.
Has anyone experienced high blood sugar as a result of treatment. As you will see from my profile, I was originally diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer in 2002. This ended up as MBC in August of 2019. So, I have been on some sort of treatment for a LONG time.
My blood glucose was always reading about 100. I was usually tested in the morning, after a late breakfast, so this was a fairly good number. In December of 2020, the number started to creep up. It was slow at first, then it was doubling every month. I ended up with a number of 600. The nurses were really worried.
I found a new PCP (my old one retired a couple of years ago) and started seeing her to get this under control. I started with Metformin, slowly at first, then increasing every few days. I am now on 2 pills twice a day. A couple of weeks ago, we added (injected) insulin to the mix (darn it!), The numbers are finally reaching a decent level (190-300 or so). I am still checking my blood sugar four times a day, taking the Metformin and one insulin shot each evening.
I am convinced that all of the cancer treatment over twenty years has just fried my pancreas and I am no longer making any natural insulin. It does not help that the side effects from all of my treatments (mainly hand and foot issues) are making it impossible to exercise. I used to walk on a treadmill but was force to give that up several months ago. I am trying to get back to it.
If you are having, or have had, sugar issues that threw you into Type 2 diabetes, I could love to compare notes with you.
Stay healthy!
