I'm on Ibrance/Faslodex. For 6 months. Besides my Onc, I do have an integrative holistic onc. I'm ER/PR positive/Her2 Negative.
All of us should be taking Omega 3, however, part of that mix is a combination of DHA/ EPA. In my particular case, DHA is huge. She suggested I amp up DHA/ I ordered this from Amazon.
Hi, thank you for posting this - I’m also ER/PR positive/Her2 Negative…I had stopped taking any supplements when I started a new batch of meds because there always seemed to be some issue alongside treatment, but sounds promising.
Hi there ! Despite what oncologists say, you can and should take supplements. Here is a fabulous website that will check for any interactions. Medical or supplements drugs.com/drug_interactions... one is Memorial Sloan Kettering
My only "beef" with Memorial Sloan Kettering is that they don't confirm interactions between drugs and/or supplements.
Meh !
Most oncologists are just that. Oncologists. They do not specialize in healing outside their domain area. I would always run stuff by your onc but keep in mind who is in charge. You !
Hi Julia,
I agree with you. I’ve been taking omega 3 with DHA/EPA for some years now and I do believe it’s working. I don’t eat seafood, so I take a vegan supplement.
Fabulous ! My integrative Oncologist ... and I have two. One who is a normal ONC, the other holistic. Kristin (my integrative onc) suggested DHA as the main focus of my Omega 3. Her advice - and I truly believe her - is find a supplement that gives a minimum of 1250 mg of DHA. EPA daily should be between 400-1000mg.
Hi! Will you put the exact name and brand of the omega3 dha that you’re taking? When I click the link and it opens Amazon it doesn’t take me to the product. It’s probably this phone I’m using.
I actually have v thrive omega 3 epa/dha 1060mg. Is that similar to what you’re taking?
Hi Stasha, this is the actual description from Amazon "DHA Supplements - DHA 500mg, EPA 250mg, 200 Softgels, Burpless, Omega-3s 1000mg, Support Brain Health - Premium DHA EPA Omega 3 Supplement". Hope that helps ! My integrative nutritionist oncologist suggested I need daily about 1250 mg of DHA and between 400-1000 EPA.
Hi Sandra ! I also eat the fatty fish. Keep in mind that 11 capsules in the study actually translates to 4 capsules of 500 mgs. I thought the same thing. LOL !
I purchased these on Amazon. They are soy free. I take 4 a day. Morning, Noon, Dinner and Bedtime. This will give the dosage of 2000 mg DHA and 800 EPA per day. Hope this helps !amazon.com/gp/product/B08WH...
Thanks very much for the research article in Science Daily. I noted that the summary given in the original article in "Cell Metabolism" concluded only with this statement: "These data point out dietary PUFA as a selective adjuvant antitumor modality that may efficiently complement pharmacological approaches."
I interpreted this statement as meaning only that dietary PUFA might complement other chemo approaches to cancer. PUFA apparently stands for "polyunsaturated fatty acids" which includes both EPA and DHA among others.
The Science Daily article concluded only:
"This UCLouvain study shows the value of DHA in fighting cancer. "For an adult," the UCLouvain researchers stated, "it's recommended to consume at least 250 mg of DHA per day. But studies show that our diet provides on average only 50 to 100 mg per day. This is well below the minimum recommended intake."
I was much less impressed with the clinical trial which has 52 participants with breast cancer (not MBC?) taking 5 gm. (20X the recommended daily allowance) of DHA for 12 to 18 weeks along with chemotherapy. I feel sorry for those poor over-dosed participants, and wonder what exactly this trial will tell us....
Although I take Omega-3's for heart reasons (apparently not supported by all studies), I think we cannot jump to the conclusion that the DHA contained in Omega-3 capsules is automatically killing our tumour cells.
I use hemp oil in my food, it's supposed to be good for the heart. I quite like the flavour. I use in salads and put on rye bread instead of butter if I'm having something savoury, or over avocado for example. X
I've not seen the seeds. I have pumpkin, flax and sunflower in my home made muesli. X
Hi Ladies,
We can also increase our omega 3 intake by eating more nuts and seeds. I usually have 2tbsp of flaxseeds every day sprinkled over my oatmeal or cereal. That is in addition to the vegan omega 3 supplements that I take twice a day. So even for vegans (or for those who just don't like seafood, like myself) you have lots of options when it comes to increasing your omega 3 intake, either through diet or a combination of diet and supplements.
Greetings: Sister/warrior. I put my trust in GOD, and in the research on natural supplements from Integrative Dr.'s that I respect . I believe in full body analysis, and Eating for ones Blood Type/Body Type. Several years ago my Medical Dr. indulged me in allowing a full body blood/urine panel . Even though I thought I was eating a very healthy diet the test came back with several low flags , and a couple of high flags . After tweaking/correcting my diet, with food, and supplements, 6 months later my 2nd group test panels were all perfect. . My medical Dr., and my Integrative Dr.'s were happy, and so was I . I do believe in eating delicious food from GOD'S green earth, exercising and supplementing your diet when necessary . We need to be proactive, or more proactive in doing the research that will give us a happy, and healthy quality of life. Thank you for this information, and I hope/pray it will help , us and our Sister/warriors live longer healthier lives.
We are Victors, and I refuse to be a victim . I use, and follow Patricia Selassie -Pimentel , Gary Null , Jane Mclelland, and a couple of others. I thank GOD for all of the Integrative, Homeopathic, and Naturaopathic nurse's, and Dr.s GOD has led me to .😇🙏💪😇👍
