I've been taking mushroom supplements for the past 7 years. I don't know about Ibrance, but I know there's no problem with Faslodex.

Thank you!

Hello there ! I'm on iBrance and Faslodex. There are no interactions with mushrooms. My Integrative oncologist suggested the SACRED 7 Mushroom Extract powder that I bought on Amazon. amazon.com/gp/product/B01BK...

I absolutely LOVE it ! I put it in my tea, coffee, salads, smoothies, dinners/meals. Its virtually tasteless and packs a ton of great mushrooms. ion's Mane, Reishi, Cordyceps, Maitake, Shiitake, Turkey Tail, Chaga.

I would strongly recommend trying it !

My oncologist does not like any supplements. I have been taking turmeric complex though as she said even though she did not recommend it, she would not be mad if I took it. My most recent scan showed no new metastatic disease. Not sure if the turmeric has anything to do with that but it definitely helps joint pain. When I asked about mushroom supplements the oncology nurse and my nutritionist both said no to supplements but yes to eating mushrooms. I think I am going to revisit this with them though as I heard they are very good for our immune system. But yes, always check with the doctor first!

My onc is same they did say they would refer me to a trusted naturopathic doc if I wanted to do complimentary therapy but I’m just sticking with regular supplements and my green juice for now

What supplements do you take and what is your green juice if I may ask?

Don’t mind at all! I love to golf too!

I take a multi-vitamin, calcium, and vitamin D. I was taking biotin when I was on Ibrance but my hair has come back with a crazy curly vengeance on Xeloda so I think I’ll back it down.

My current green juice is:

One green apple

one lemon

1/4 cup pineapple

An entire package of organic celery

An entire cucumber- the long skinny ones (my husband shops so I have no idea)

I also sometimes do:

2 or 3 oranges

An entire package of carrots

Turmeric

I take a multi-vitamin, Raw Calcium/Vitamin D and turmeric complex. I do smoothies every day with protein powder, Kefir, almond milk, a package of organic fruit that contains spinach and kale (my husband got it at Costco) and sometimes add pumpkin, peanut butter and cinnamon. Yours sounds yummy, too. Is that one smoothie or do you make that to last several days? Also, do you drink this every day? Interesting that your hair has come back on Xeloda, but I am happy for you. I only have biotin in my multivitamin as several ladies on here said a biotin supplement can mess with tumor markers. Glad you like to play golf. Hope you get many chances to do that. I live in Southwest Florida on a golf course so I am out as much as I can be. Every day I ask God for 1,000 more rounds before I leave this earth.

I put my juice in a mason jar and have over five days. It seems to last just fine this way. Yours sounds great! We can’t golf in Phoenix right now so our clubs are spending the summer at our cabin so we can golf every other week on average up North in the pines. 😎

Ok, that sounds good. I was thinking that was a lot of stuff for one smoothie, especially an entire package of carrots! I was picturing you turning orange after just one day! I am so sorry you cannot golf in Phoenix right now but happy you can play further north in Arizona. Golfing has been a lifesaver for me emotionally and physically. My therapist likes to play golf, too, and many of our conversations revolve around him discussing situations in golf in helping me to deal with MBC. Take care.

Did they say why not to take them? My nutritionist—who is affiliated with a major cancer center, does recommend Turkey Tail and several others.

I would be interested to know if there are specific potential interactions. …

Thanks Sandra. Don’t go to any trouble on this. I was just curious.

I have one foot in the select supplement camp to boost immunity, Lower inflammation etc, but am under no illusions they are miracle cures—and want to be careful not to contradict the benefits of the standard of care medications that are doing the heavy lifting!

Wow. so interesting. That makes a lot of sense... I didn't know that too many antioxidants could impact Ibrance.

If it's OK with you, I will copy and send your response to my nutritionist as well as she will find it interesting.

I agree it is all so personal --which is why, like you. I find the Jane McClelland Facebook group so dodgy--everyone weighs in with DIY protocols for all sorts of cancers.... While there may be some basis to her theories, it is not something to experiment with without medical guidanceIMO. It seems irresponsible that she allows that FB group.

Even on here I am reticent to weigh in on the supplements I take as they were recommended for me. It's ironic how medicine is based on formal, randomized, years long studies yet we all end up being n=1 for a lot of this journey.

By the way, I did a quick google and found this article from 2014 that backs-up what you're saying, and might be interesting not just to you, but to other women reading. One of the authors appears to be a naturopath the other an oncology professor. They state that it is hard to know what antioxidant supplements will have a negative impact on cancer treatments, so caution is advised. I think 2014 is pre-Ibrance but it mentions the reactive oxygen species: ascopost.com/issues/july-25...

I don’t take supplements but eat shiitake organic mushrooms every day. I make a frittata every morning with the the mushrooms, chia seeds, walnuts and mackerel lots of omega 3. Sometimes I add other things too, I use 5 farm organic eggs luckily I live near a farm shop.My husband is sick of eating frittata but I love it lol.

Thank you Debra!!! Not only sounds delicious, but so beneficial. I live in the middle of nowhere, but I'm going to try to find Shiitake organic shoots. Thanks! Marjorie

Great idea that probably would not have entered my brain fogged mind!!!👍🤣😂🤣😂

Update—I asked my oncologist about this today (traditional guy, Stanford educated etc) he said the amount of antioxidants you would have to take to effect Ibrance is much higher than any person could consume. He was pro mushroom supplement as recommended by nutritionist and said not to stop anything I am taking.

None of this is a “cure” just a means to support overall health.

Anyway. Just thought it was interesting to hear another point of view.

in reply toPbsoup

Fantastic!!! Thank you so much for asking your onc!! I appreciate it. I have a special appt with mine tomorrow to ask he same questions. ❤
