Looks great! Please explain what an allotment is for this American.
An allotment is a plot of soil where you grow vegetables and/or fruit x
TLLS,
How does one come about, or obtain an allotment? We call these “postage stamp” gardens in CA.
A friend from high school (43 years out of high school here!) always said that he wanted to be a farmer! He an his wife have a VERY successful produce and olive oil farm in San Louis Obispo, California. I invite you to look at their website, and visit their farm, if you are nearby. It is “SLO Grown Produce.” They supply fresh produce to a lot of the fine dining restaurants in this area of the California central coast.
Best,
Colleen
Sincerely,
Collee
I’m in the U.K. Colleen. Here we have to go on our local councils waiting list.
Flowerfairies2,
I see. What a great opportunity. We had a small plot that we worked in our condominium community garden. The homegrown veggies are SO MUCH tastier!
Colleen
Couldn’t agree more 😉❤️
It’s a rented plot of land from usually the local council. They charge a minimum fee. It was originally for working families on low income to grow fruit and vegetables for their families. Times have changed dramatically now and all kinds of folks rent the space. It’s a lovely community environment. Like minded folks use them. There is a 5 year waiting list now as there is great demand. We live in an apartment so this is our garden also. Thanks for asking. 🌹❤️
It's lovely. Thanks for enlightening me!Ann
Flowerfairies2,
What are you growing there? Looks very healthy, that garden!
Best, Colleen
Oh what do you have growing? We've been eating a lot of lettuce this week (my 5 Yr old helped and got a bit eager with the seeds 😂) we've also just built a planter to grown potatoes this year too. My grass on the other hand is looking worse for wear! X
Well done. Oh dear what are we growing, where do I start. All salad produce, carrots, potatoes, onions, various brassicas, soya beans, cucamelons (a cross between a melon and cucumber), squashes, gooseberries, Chilean guava berries, black currants and so on. To many to mention, keep up the growing. Glad your son is involved. 🐝🐞🌹🍏🫐🧅
Wow the allotment looks amazing. It’s so lovely to be able to shut off in such serene places. I also spend so much time in my garden it’s my sanctuary to be able to see new growth, it just counteracts negative thoughts that creep in living with this condition when you see a new plant poking through the soil and flowers appearing, can’t help but smile, plus I get to talk to my lovely neighbours and share plants. Currently we are all growing edible flowers.Have a lovely day

That’s great Debra. Enjoy your flowers. They make a tasty, colourful salad.
Thanks for sharing that picture. It looks wonderful. Gardens are so therapeutic in so many ways. Wishing you a good rest of the weekend too.
Cheers, June S.
Beautiful! I'm enjoying caring for my gardens, both flowers and vegetables! Raised and elevated beds are easier for my back and knees, and I take photos to enjoy during bad weather and when I'm too sick to garden...I put them on my computer screen saver!
Great idea. X
It looks lovely. So happy you have gardening to distract you.
Wow your garden is lovely, a beautiful distraction!
Flowerfairies. your garden is lovely? Thank you for sharing a pic...gardening is my happy place too! What are you growing?Maura❤️
Most we have doubled up on but various varieties, we are growing all salad produce, carrots, potatoes, onions, various brassicas, soya beans, cucamelons (a cross between a melon and cucumber), squashes, gooseberries, Chilean guava berries, black currants, lots of different herbs and so on. To many to mention. Then at the bottom we have a raised flower and shrub bed. It doesn’t show in the photo. It’s just lovely seeing it grow.Best wishes Maura x
Wow, what an explosion of beautiful greens! So healthy too.Jackie x
Gardening is good medicine. Communing with plants will help you heal. Scientists are learning more about how important it is for us to be in touch with nature. Hugs Marlene
