Hi my mum is in terrible pain and she was given 2 injections this morning one in each hips and she has been given Dexamethasone and also codeine this morning. She started 2nd course of capecitabine this week. My question should you be having codeine while having capecitabine. She is in a country where they don't give much explanations and Over the last few months they have lost her blood results and test quite that's why I am asking these questions. Thanks

Oh, dear soleila3 - I'm so sorry for what your mom - and you - are going through!

I'm sorry, but I don't have an answer to your question, but please know that you're in my thought and I'm hoping that your mom finds some relief.

p.s. She's lucky to have you, her daughter, looking out for her.

Wishing you both the best,

Lynn

Thank you so much for your reply I have cried reading. My mum is my world and I just can't imagine my life without. This morning she is feeling better and had had a very good night of sleep thing she has not had for 2 days. I think the dexamethasone seem to be helping let's hope it carries on providing some form of relief. She hasn't had to take the codeine. The fact that I don't live in the same country as her makes it even worse. Moreover with everything going on I can't travel abroad and I have 3 children as well to think of and a supportive husband. I speak to my parents 2-3 times a day and I can't bear to see her in pain. Thank you so much for your reply.

Hi Sandra, Firstly thank you for your reply I have found so much helpful things from this group. My mum is feeling a lot better today since taking dexamethasone last night pain in her legs or hips pain have reduced a lot. she herself can't believe it. That was my concern whether codeine interact with the way xeloda works and whether it will be less effective. But as you said her pain and quality of life is more important. Thursday and Friday her pain was so atrocious but after taking dexamethasone yesterday they somehow has been so much reduced a pain she can bear. She has not taken codeine yet but it is good to know she can if needed. Where she is she can't just contact her oncologist whenever only when she goes to her appointment so not easy. Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. Xx

Glad your Mum is feeling better and looks like her pain can be controlled with medication. Sending the best to you both.

Just chiming in to say I was sorry to hear about your Mom. So very difficult to not be ble to be there, and being so far away. Great that she her pain is relieved and she had a good nights sleep. She will be able to concentrate on other things now. I understand that you can't speak to the Oncologist in between appointments. Can you speak to the nurse? Or can anyone else be a contact there for your Mom, like a friend or relative?

Thinking about you and your Mom.

Cheers, June S.

Thanks for you reply, unfortunately you can't speak to nobody there. If you are not feeling well all you can do is go to the hospital. Mum got her twin and they are so close and she helps a lot so does my dad.

If she takes the codeine, just make sure is not on an empty stomach--it ca be nauseating.
