It’s almost the weekend. Some of our ladies had a stressful week. A nice drink with an umbrella in it might lift your spirits. This photo is from 2 weeks ago at a cute spot (outdoors & socially distant) on Cape Cod. Remember to be good to yourself.

Do something nice for yourself this weekend
Yum. What is that drink?
It’s called a painkiller. Don’t be afraid of the name! It’s basically a pina colada. It’s delicious with nutmeg and whipped cream and a dash of OJ.
Here’s the recipe:

Thanks you.
Sounds like a good idea to me ... 🍹 🍸 but this is the type of umbrella we will need here in the UK ☔️ 🤣
Wow, that looks fantastic!! Is that a pina colada? Lots of fruit nutrients, too! And I just love the glassware...all so perfect! Thanks for sharing!
No alcohol for me. But that looks quite festive! And thanks for the reminder. I just need to figure out what to do.
Hi Martha,
I like the look of that drink! We should all plan to have a good weekend. I am looking forward to some downtime after a busy week. Have fun, ladies!
Sophie
It is getting too cold for those very healthy pina coladas with all that pineapple juice. So I have switched over to hot cocoa with brandy having finished the rum.
I like your seasonal flexibility!!! 🍹
Thank you! We are all working hard to become as flexible and as adaptable as we need be to live our lives as well as we can under these very testing times.
At the beginning of August, I broke the rule and travelled to Cape Cod to visit my sister who had recently become a widow. You certainly live in a peaceful, beautiful corner of the US. thank you again for your pina colada picture. It is a very cheery picture and sends smiles to our faces.
XXX OOO
Sandra -/ you’re such a “giver!” 😆😆😆
Thanks for the chuckle
Haircut and hair color here so I can continue to pretend I am 27. Then delving into the new Ottolenghi Flavor cookbook, and I may knit a pumpkin! And continuing to unpack from closing our NYC office after 24 years to be total WFH!
The older Ottolenghi book, Blessings, has some recipes that I consider very delicious , in particular, parsley dumplings in broth and an eggplant tortellini
My computer stopped typing before, when I was writing about the book, "Plenty", before I could correct my error. It isn't tortellini, it is rollitini and, furthermore, I can't even find it in the book. Sorry for my less than helpful entry.
No worries! I guessed it was Plenty...and I will look for the recipe! I own a group of websites about books and when readers write me, I often sleuth what they are talking about.
So! You too are a cook! Cooking and baking, playing in the kitchen, is my occupational therapy. I do occupational therapy most days.. It is mostly baking because I have good outlets for any baked goods; family nearby and friends in the neighborhood.
Yesterday, I made a very big pot of pork and cabbage soup ( no official recipe). My daughter will come over some time today to collect most of it. Just now, I will go to bake a devils food cake with ganache and whipped cream. I missed someone's birthday, this week and will rectify that, today.
Any special recipies you want to share will be appreciated.
This week I was cooking my way through the new Ina Garten book, New Comfort Food. Made something every night!
I don't have any of Ina Garton's recipe books but have got some recipes of hers from the Internet. I like her approach which I think of as slightly more sophisticated than the "homespun" recipes. That suits my ways. I can highly recommend "French" by Carole Clements and Elizabeth Wolf-Cohen.
I think that there are very few recipes in that book that I haven't done or got an idea from. The lamb stew in that book cannot be better. I've made it over and over again and it always tastes so good to me and my family or guests..
Wow. That’s impressive!
Wow! Everyone on this forum is so creative. Jumping into new things. Closing an office after 24 yrs. I bet there are a lot of people doing that. Changing the scenery. Maybe all those empty offices can be turned into affordable apartments.
All the best.
cheers, June S.
Commercial real estate in NYC was ridiculously expensive. So so many have left. The city is onerous on employers with taxes and rules. My staff really wanted WFH and we actually are doing more now. Residential real estate rental prices are coming down a lot...vacancies are high and I think they will go higher before they drop.
That's interesting. Wondering how things will go here in Ontario, Canada also. I think we could see the same thing happen here. WHF is good for the employers money wise. I think WFH will continue.
Cheers, June S.
My staff told me they love saving time and money not commuting! My parking alone in NYC was $600 a month.
Eh gads! That alone is an incentive to WFH. Just the beginning of the savings. Travel expenses, business clothes, etc. I have one daughter who has been working from home for 7 years now.
My other daughter is working from home because of the virus but she liked going to the office. Not so many interruptions I guess. Her husband is also working from home and her daughter is being home schooled by a sitter.
It will be a difference for sure but maybe a good one once you get used to it. A big change after 24 years.
Cheers, June S.
I am sooooo happy already...left NYC in Mar...finally moved out of the office in early June. Still sorting and tossing files., a garage full of bookshelves and office equipment and a dining room full of spare electronics. I think we have 20 power strips and soooo many ethernet cords. But if I am having a MBC off day skipping a 3.5-4 hr commute is great.
Looks yummy. I would like one. Blessings Hannah
Oh, how I miss Cape Cod. Lived in West Yarmouth, Hyannis and Dennisport.
Mmmm drink looks very refreshing!
Looks yummy!
Loving it....made at least 7 things from it in the past week. All amazing!
Sorry about the snow Sandra. Hope it is short lived! Please don't send it East. There must be some nice fireside drink recipes on the Net if you don't have some of your own. I am having a nice weekend. Got some European Tennis matches taped. A few Canadians taking part. Found a new book by Jeffrey Archer at the drugstore. (25% off). Making some homemade Chicken vegatabel soup. Might as well call it my Random soup as I throw in what ever I have leftover in the fridge. I would open a bottle of wine but I am the only one who drinks it so it wouldn't get used up. I don't like to drink to much while on these high powered meds. Anyone have thought on that? Maybe it would help attack the cancer!!
Cheers, June S.
