UTI and ibrance/faslodex treatment

TakingCareBusiness profile image

Hi ....I am taking ibrance and faslodex, felt a UTI coming in Oncologist confirmed, Gabe me Cipro, took first 3days only some relief. I called to see if she can change time a bactrim as that has always worked first me she then said stop Cipro and now am on 2nd day disease 4pills in with one more to go, it did improve as expected but yet I still feel an annoying pressure on that area and continue to wake 4 to 5 tines a night to pee, not oainful at all that part, just means very sleepless nights and I try to sleep with that pressure not super painful just there ....do anybody think it might just be because low blood cell count is low it takes us longer to heal or get rid of in this case and in turn will take longer and have symptoms longer then the norm even if taking antibiotic. I always feel better knowing the comforts if someone else is going thru this because I have nobody to ask and what better then this lively group who are going thru the same....maybe I just need more patience then normal to get rid of UTI, thank you in advance.

Hi there

I had a very stubborn uti last year...was given a three day course of Macrobid which did nothing so I saw another doc who gave me 14 days of the same drug ( one extreme to the other) but I took all of the course and it eventually went away...I was on Ibrance at the time and I’m positive that’s why it took ages to go...as you said in your post it’s the reduced white cells and our immune system

Good luck

Thank you Barb, I feel better knowing I am not alone in a sense as the doctors prescribe and may be wonderful but have no clue so I want to hear from patients others who can truly relate. If I go to my doctor and they say never heard of that, because they are not going thru it and not enough patients speak up. I just want to know that it may be normal for us, as I don't want to be drama, it just is also sensitive when I lean against my right side and pressure to pee and I go, no pain in urination it has been a week. I have 2 more sulfmethoxazole. I also have read that Doctors have made patients stop ibrance while doing antibiotic....any suggestions first relief is always appreciated. Thank you for mentally making me feel better that it is not unusual to have longer then normal💗

Did they send a urine sample to a lab for testing?...sometimes a different antibiotic is needed as the bacteria can become resistant

Hope you feel better soon

I had a UTI the first month on chemo. The doctor did a urine sample and then prescribed Keflex. It cleared it right up.

I haven't a had a UTI since being on meds but a few years ago had several and started taking cranberry tablets which another friend had recommended by her consultant. It apparently boosts the immune system. I continue to take them. I dont know if anything like that would help. I believe echinacea is good too, but you may need to check with your consultant.

Hi. I’m on Ibrance and had the same. I didn’t go to the doctor because it was tolerable but yes. Lots of sleepless nights. It eventually went away. Ever so often I can feel pressure. But no pain.

Be sure to keep your fluid intake higher than normal. With Ibrance and with Macrobid you need more fluids. Macrobid can cause bladder discomfort with a low fluid intake.
