What a surprise !

Hi ladies

Iโ€™m forgetting about the big C for a while and concentrating on the little C!

I popped 6 fertile eggs under my very old broody hen and now have two chicks.

Iโ€™m over the moon.

A mom again thanks to an egg donor and donor daddy! That is so sweet. She must be surprised.

Hi Jo,

That is such a touching sight! I bet the hen is thrilled to have a couple of chicks to mother. You must be so happy.

How lovely, chicks are the cutest little things.

Do you have a picture of them?

Lovely ๐Ÿ˜Š

My friend Herbie bought his wife an incubator for her birthday. She wasnโ€™t impressed. He then filled it with eggs (they have chickens and a cockerel) 38 of the eggs hatched to his surprise, but they didnโ€™t have anywhere to keep them but sue had had a beautiful oak garden room built last year so herbie decided it was the ideal place to keep the 38 chickens over the winter while he made a chicken pen large enough to house them! Herbie is very good at carpentry but not very fast and heโ€™d got a couple of commissions to do first. So sue had her lovely garden room full of chickens for 4 months! To say she wasnโ€™t impressed was an understatement!!

I wish we had a laugh emoji for a quick reply! Your poor neighbor!

They live a beautiful Tudor house with wooden beams and the garden room had been hand built to match the rest of the property and theyโ€™d had to get special permission because itโ€™s a listed building. She was so excited about being able to show it off to her family when they came for Christmas. But with 38 hens living in it the doors had to remain firmly closed to stop them exploring the rest of the house.

The grandchildren loved having the chickens in the house, the adults murmured about the rather pungent smell which no amount of cleaning could get rid of. Herbie has worked in the photography industry and lost his sense of smell decades ago. Sue has a lot more patience than I have ๐Ÿ˜

She must have patience! The smell would have made me give away all those chicks. I have had puppies and a baby goat or two living in my downstairs half bath for a week or so, but wouldnโ€™t have managed for longer. What we do for animals!

Me neither! Many years ago I had a litter of puppies in the kitchen, they were gorgeous but I was so glad when they went to their new homes!

Absolutely precious! Out of curiosity, did the old broody hen just finish a cigarette? Should not be smoking around her little newborns. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

What a great post! If I were that hen Iโ€™d be wondering what happened and thinking I thought I was done producing babies! She probably thinks she is special now!
