I get the jitters just thinking about having to travel to Boston for my appointment! It involves taking the train then subway. Am I being foolish for wanting to cancel?

Mmm- yeah. This might be a good time to try out telemedicine! I live out in the country and get myself back and forth, but if I had to do the train/subway route I would delay/reschedule, if at all possible.

You are not foolish for not wanting to ride the train and the subway. Perhaps you could set up a tele-medicine appointment.

I agree with those who suggest telemedicine if possible. That is what I did with my monthly checkin. If not, I am in the Boston area and the Boston Globe has published articles about how quiet some of the lines are. I think you will be ok on the commuter rail where you should be able to maintain the 6 feet distance, along with a mask. My son's brother takes the Green Line to the BI and it has been quiet. I suggest you check which T subway line you need to take and read up on each line. Governor Baker just extended the stay at home advisory to May 18 so you will not run into rush hour crowds.

Call your onc's office and ask if you can do your next appt by phone or some kind of computer thing. I'd be jittery about train and subway travel right now, too. I am having some cardiac tests in a couple of weeks and my cardiologist's office called and told me to go ahead with the tests and then go home and he will call me about results. I'm okay with that and he is not the first of my doctors to want to make our next appt by phone! I even got an e mail from my Medicare supplemental insurance saying that they will pay for phone and other none face to face apts with my doctors.

I live in a rural area and this Covid 19 thing has made me feel as though I am lucky to live out here where my county only has a few Covid 19 cases.......since getting this cancer, I'v often wished I lived in a more urban area with better access to bc specialists (as well as culture!) We're doing all we can to distance and stay at home. It is sure a crazy time!

Not foolish at all. My oncologist has organised for my books and denocumab injection to all be done at home. She doesn't want me to have my scans this time either. I would not go. Not worth it. Especially where you are timtam. Australia is doing so well and we are being really really careful. That's why.

I am having my first telephone appointment today. I have blood labs done locally and CT scans & bone scans done in smaller hospitals . This will be the first time I have not gone to the city for an oncologist appointment.

I have a feeling this will be an ongoing process and was planned before the virus . I am personally pleased to give this a try.

I do not blame you at all for not wanting to take public transit . I would also call your oncologist office , explain the travel situation and ask if it is absolutely necessary .

Heck, we're only 3 miles from the dr's office here and travel by our own personal vehicle and dr's office cancelled and made appt. over the phone. Nothing wrong with staying away from travel during this crazy time. God bless you and heal us all in Jesus name, amen. xx

Totally understand your feelings, I have appointment at Moffitt in June, but will be driving and keep debating whether or not to cancel. Would need to stay two nights in a room that I won't know whether it has been totally sanitized. stop to get gas, food, etc. It's scary. Blessings, Hannah

It is normal to feel this way. My doctor has been doing telephone appointments for the past two months. I am seeing him face to face on Monday beautiful that is to discuss a different treatment. Maybe your doctor will just call you if you ask.
